No NAIDOC Week glory for Swans against Royals
SWAN Districts produced another impressive first half but couldn’t quite keep it going against East Perth as part of the WAFL NAIDOC Round at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.
Desperately searching for a third victory of the season and lifted with the presence of some energetic new faces in the team including Dylan Smith and Aidan Clarke, Swan Districts came out playing some tremendous football in the first half.
Swans would go on to lead by 13 points at half-time as well in the game as part of NAIDOC Round in the WAFL. But the Royals went on to kick four goals to one in the second half to claim the 8.17 (65) to 8.9 (57).
In Their Words – Brandon Erceg Round 13
LAST time I wrote for this column, the weather was nice, the energy in the group was high after only losing due to missing a kick after the siren against a strong South Fremantle side, I was still a chance of playing some footy this year and the season was still very much promising in terms of potentially playing finals.
Eight more losses and only two wins later, with winter well and truly kicking in, and some might say it has been a season to forget. But as they often say in basketball, when you take a deeper look into the box score, it shouldn’t be viewed as all doom and gloom.
Of our nine losses, two have come by under 10 points, two by a goal or less including a missed shot after the siren, a 14-point loss to East Freo after only being two points down at three quarter-time, and being overrun by Claremont after only being one point down at three quarter-time. It might sound like I’m making excuses or trying to justify our losses, but I’m not; as a club we need to get better and find a way to win more of those games than we lose when the opportunity presents.
Round 9 Preview v Subiaco
SWAN Districts has the chance to return to second spot on the WAFLW ladder but it won't be easy by overcoming Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.
The game will be played as part of NAIDOC Round in the 2019 Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season and will take place from 12.05pm on Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval.
For those not able to be in attendance, the game will be available to be viewed through livestream on the WAFL website and Facebook page.
Round 13 Preview v East Perth
SWAN Districts is back on home soil at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday to host East Perth in NAIDOC Round of the WAFL with the black-and-whites desperate for an improved showing and to return to the winner's list.
It's going to be a big day of high-quality action at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday in commemoration of NAIDOC Week.
It all gets underway from 9.20am with the reserves contest between Swan Districts and East Perth.
Injury Update
In sad news, Riley Garcia has suffered a season ending ACL injury in WA’s victory against Victoria Country last Wednesday.
Mid-Season Member Update by President Peter Hodyl
Fellow Members and Supporters, I wish to provide this mid-season update to reinforce to all our progress to becoming the dominant force in the WAFL in the not too distant future. This has always been the ‘long game’ and we have been extremely diligent to ensure that we do not make the same mistakes of the past by searching for a short term fix.
Swans no match in Mandurah for Thunder
IT was an afternoon to forget for Swan Districts in Mandurah on Saturday with the black-and-whites managing just the one goal in the first half before going on to lose to Peel Thunder by 79 points.
It was the first time Swans took on the Thunder for the 2019 WAFL season and while they did head to Mandurah's David Grays Arena with high hopes of a bounce back victory, it wasn’t to be.
Swan Districts came into the game with tough losses to Perth, Claremont and West Perth, and then Saturday turned into the most disappointing showing so far of 2019 with Peel running out 19.11 (125) to 7.4 (46) victors. Read More [+]
Round 12 Preview v Peel Thunder
SWAN Districts hits the road again in Round 12 of the 2019 WAFL season to take on Peel Thunder for the first time for the campaign with the mission of returning to the winner's list.
Swans have now lost their past three matches since beating the West Coast Eagles to slip to the bottom of the ladder, but a win on Saturday against Peel at Mandurah's David Grays Arena and the season is right back alive for the black-and-whites given the evenness of the competition.
The game is back in the traditional 2.15pm time slot on Saturday with the colts beginning the day in Mandurah at 9am before the reserves match begins at 11.30am.
Round 8 Preview v East Fremantle
SWAN Districts has risen to second position on the WAFLW ladder following last week's win over Claremont and now revenge is on the mind of the black-and-whites against East Fremantle heading back to East Fremantle Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Swans now sit in second spot on the WAFLW with a 3-3 record but last time they played the Sharks earlier this season, they went scoreless in the entire second half and lost by 10 goals.
So revenge is on the minds of those Swan Districts players ahead of Sunday's clash which provides a chance to further consolidate second spot on the WAFLW ladder.
