Wins for colts, reserves; loss for league v Sharks

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 - 2:12 PM - by Chris Pike

WHILE Swan Districts' league side fell to East Fremantle on Saturday with the Sharks winning their first WAFL match in almost a year, the reserves and colts were impressive scoring strong wins for the Black Ducks.

Swan Districts had every right to come into the game feeling confident. They might have only won once in their first five games of the season, but they had gone agonisingly close in losses to South Fremantle, East Perth, Perth and Subiaco.

Then up against an East Fremantle team who hadn’t won since Round 8 last year and who lost to West Perth by 26 points prior to the State Game break and 91 points to South Fremantle the week before, everything was pointing towards a good day for Swans on their home deck.

Round 3 Preview v East Fremantle

Saturday, May 18, 2019 - 1:56 AM

SWAN Districts hits the road for first time in the WAFL Women's competition when the Black Ducks take on East Fremantle at Shark Park on Sunday afternoon.

It has been an exciting opening to the first ever season of the new WAFLW competition which has been created in 2019 on the back of the momentum from the AFLW national competition and the work to break the ground done in recent years by the WA Women's Football League.

Subiaco has started the WAFLW season impressively winning their opening two matches and now the Lions will have the Round 3 bye leaving the other four teams to battle it out to build some momentum.

The game to be livestreamed at the WAFL Facebook page and on www.wafl.com.au will take place at Claremont Oval between Claremont and Peel Thunder.

Also with a 2pm bouncedown, East Fremantle will be playing Swan Districts at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park.

SWAN Districts has started the 2019 WAFL season playing good football without getting a lot of reward but Saturday provides a chance to start changing that against East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval.

The record for Swan Districts might say one win and four losses from the opening five matches heading into the State Game break last week, but the form of the Black Ducks has been significantly been more impressive than that.
