Round 6 Preview v East Fremantle

SWAN Districts has started the 2019 WAFL season playing good football without getting a lot of reward but Saturday provides a chance to start changing that against East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval.

The record for Swan Districts might say one win and four losses from the opening five matches heading into the State Game break last week, but the form of the Black Ducks has been significantly been more impressive than that.

Donnellan impressed by Swans' first WAFLW win

SWAN Districts scored its first WAFL Women's victory on Sunday against Claremont with coach Kara Donnellan pleased with a lot of the performance from captain Ashley Sharp to young players like Taylor Pescud.

Following an opening round loss to Subiaco to open the inaugural WAFLW season, Swan Districts bounced back impressively again at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday to beat Claremont by 36 points.

There was plenty to like about the performance from the Black Ducks with coach Kara Donnellan pleased with the way the team responded from the loss to Subiaco to open their account for 2019 ahead of a clash with East Fremantle on the road this Sunday.

Swans open WAFLW account with win over Tigers

THE second round of inaugural Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season took place on Sunday afternoon with Swan Districts recording its first victory defeating Claremont at Steel Blue Oval.

The inaugural season of the WAFLW got underway the previous Sunday with East Fremantle defeating Peel Thunder, and Subiaco getting the better of Swan Districts.

It was then Round 2 of the debut season on Sunday afternoon and the action got underway at Leederville Oval with Subiaco beating East Fremantle 7.4 (46) to 5.5 (35).

Swans trio shine in narrow WA State Game loss

SWAN Districts trio Corey Gault, Tony Notte and George Hampson all played key roles for the KIA WAFL State Team in Sunday's narrow defeat to the SANFL at Optus Stadium.

Gault, Notte and Hampson all made the final 22 for the Western Australia team as they attempted to make it seven consecutive State Game victories.

Things were looking good for the WAFL representative team too when leading by 22 points during the second quarter. But South Australia was able to turn things around and produce an impressive running game in the second while taking their chance in front of goal to end up winning by seven points.

The Swan Districts trio did all they could to lift the WAFL to the victory though.

Swans trio key in WAFL State Game v SANFL

SWAN Districts looks set to have a strong representation in the WAFL State Team on Sunday against the SANFL at Optus Stadium with Western Australia attempting to win a seventh consecutive State Game.

The 2019 State Game will take place at Optus Stadium this Sunday from noon with the WAFL representative side take on the best of the SANFL.

The game will be held as a curtain-raiser to the AFL clash on Sunday afternoon between Fremantle and Richmond at Optus Stadium.

For those not in attendance, it will be beamed live on www.wafl.com.au and at the WAFL Facebook page. It will also be live on radio courtesy of 91.3 SportFM.

Round 2 Preview v Claremont

SWAN Districts is back at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday for Round 2 of the inaugural WAFL Women's Premiership Season with the Black Ducks this time hosting Claremont searching for their first win in the new competition.

The WAFLW competition has been launched in 2019 with Swan Districts one of just five clubs included in the league.

Things got underway with the opening two games last weekend which included East Fremantle beating Peel Thunder and Swan Districts going down on home turf to Subiaco.

Swan Districts will again be at home this Sunday at Steel Blue Oval to take on a Claremont team that had the bye in the opening round. Bounce down is set for 2.45pm.

Speed machine Sharp back for Swan Districts

FRESH off playing a key role in the Fremantle Dockers AFL Women's campaign, speedster Ashley Sharp will return for Swan Districts this Sunday and she can't wait to pull on the black-and-white jumper again.

Sharp has become one of the most exciting female footballers in the country with her blistering speed and ability to run and carry the ball making her a standout player in the AFLW competition.

She was a key contributed in Fremantle making it all the way to the preliminary final earlier in 2019 and highlighting her abilities was a stunning running goal for the Dockers that saw her awarded the honour of winning the AFLW Goal of the Year award.

Swans part of new era in WAFLW against Lions

SWAN Districts was part of history on Sunday hosting a game in the first round of the inaugural WAFL Women's Premiership Season and despite the loss to Subiaco, there was plenty of positives to take out of the day.

Swan Districts has been a powerhouse in West Australian female football for a long time and as a result were a lock to be one of the five teams included in the inaugural WAFLW season for 2019.

That saw Swans play host to Subiaco on Sunday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval to be part of history in the opening round of the new competition, with the Lions winning the game 7.5 (47) to 2.6 (18).

Swans take it right up to undefeated Lions

FOR three quarters Swan Districts looked a legitimate chance to hand Subiaco its first WAFL loss since the 2017 Grand Final and while the Lions responded to find a way to win the game, there was plenty to like from a Black Ducks perspective.

Swan Districts were coming off its first win of the season against West Perth and were ready for the challenge of the reigning premiers Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Swans found themselves 16 points up at three quarter-time to throw down the gauntlet to the Lions, but Subiaco responded with the only five goals of the last quarter to end up winning 11.13 (79) to 9.7 (61).
