Swans finish WAFLW season on fire

SWAN Districts ensured it will enter the WAFL Women's finals in fine form making it a third straight victory and an emphatic one at that beating Peel Thunder by 68 points in Mandurah on Saturday.

Swan Districts ensured it will enter the WAFLW finals in some ominous form following a commanding 68-point victory against Peel Thunder on Saturday.

Swan Districts has the bye in the final round of the round WAFLW season but put in a tremendous showing on Saturday at Mandurah's David Grays Arena to come away with the 11.9 (75) to 1.1 (7) victory.

Round 19 Preview v Peel Thunder

SWAN Districts runs out onto Steel Blue Oval for the last time in 2019 on Saturday afternoon against Peel Thunder and the black-and-whites have the chance to both hold out hope of avoiding the wooden spoon and ending Peel's season in the process.

Swans are back to Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon and while it might appear there's not a lot to play for, there's plenty of motivation for the black-and-whites players especially to try and send off the home fans on a pleasing note and to continue to try and finish off the season with momentum.

Swan Districts could also avoid the wooden spoon for 2019 by winning its last two matches so while that remains a possibility, it's worth aiming for.

Round 14 Preview v Peel Thunder

SWAN Districts plays its last game of the 2019 WAFL Women's season in Mandurah on Saturday and having lost last time u against Peel Thunder, they can't afford another slip as they try to at least finish this weekend in second position.

Swan Districts wouldn’t have forgotten that it is the only team to have lost to Peel in this WAFLW season entering Saturday's clash at David Grays Arena, but this is a vastly different black-and-white outfit.

Swans come into Saturday's game in good form coming off the win against East Fremantle last Sunday and now a win on Saturday against Peel and they could rise to second spot on the WAFLW ladder ahead of the final round bye.

Swans Women impressive with win over Sharks

SWAN Districts kept their top two prospects alive in the inaugural WAFL Women's season after an impressive six-point victory against East Fremantle on Sunday.

Swan Districts' women headed to East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park on Sunday needing to beat the second placed Sharks to remain a top two prospects and to stay in third position, and they were able to get the job done.

Swans ended up kicking five goals to one in the second half in an impressive performance to win 7.2 (44) to 5.8 (38).

Swans come up short against the Lions

KICKING just the one goal in the first half was never going to be enough for Swan Districts against Subiaco on Saturday at Leederville Oval, but to Swans' credit, they continued to fight and ended up outscoring the Lions in the second half.

Swan Districts were coming into the clash with Subiaco on a high coming off a drought breaking win against the West Coast Eagles last Saturday at Steel Blue Oval.

But taking on Subiaco was a whole other thing with the Lions having locked away a fifth consecutive minor premiership. Then the Lions kicked 10 goals to one in the first half on Saturday at Leederville Oval to set up the eventual 62-point victory.

Turner's all-round Swans game continues to grow

FRESH off kicking the winning goal for Swan Districts against the West Coast Eagles, Jesse Turner has enjoyed the chance in 2019 to spend more time as an inside midfielder and to take on more of a leadership role as his all-round game continues to develop.

Turner is one player whose role is becoming of increasing importance at Swan Districts with the black-and-whites still possessing a strong group of senior, experienced players and exciting youngsters, but it's in that middle tier that they are somewhat lacking.

While players like Tony Notte, George Hampson, Matt Riggio, Alex Howard and Steven Payne continue to lead from the front, and youngsters Denzel More, Josh Cipro, Tristen Raynor, Jiah Reidy, Lachlan Riley, Aidan Clarke, Jackson Beck, Callum Garcia, Seb Bright, Dylan Smith, Brayden Hackett and Nathan Ireland are exciting future prospects, Swans' growth must come from players like Turner.

SWAN Districts returned to the WAFL winners list last Saturday and now could pull off the upset of the season by backing that up against Subiaco on Saturday at Leederville Oval.

Coming off losing seven consecutive matches, Swan Districts produced a spirited and encouraging performance last Saturday at Steel Blue Oval to end up coming away with a four-point victory over the West Coast Eagles.

The next challenge for Swans on the back of that is the biggest test in the WAFL up against the league-leading Subiaco at Leederville Oval on Saturday.
