Swans Roebourne team hosts second annual Build and Ride 26 Ride Day after success in 2025
This past Wednesday, the Swans Roebourne team hosted their second annual Build and Ride Ride Day after a highly successful program last year. The Roebourne team worked this year to rebuild and refurbish approximately 50 donated bicycles to the community’s youth, after repairing and donating 36 bicycles in 2025.
This year’s event began in Roebourne and took riders all the way to Port Walcott Yacht Club, raising road safety awareness while emphasising the importance of physical activity and deepening community connections. The route also took participants through many stops along the way where program supporters and sponsors could encourage riders and the Roebourne team.
Leading up to the Ride Day the Swans Roebourne team worked for weeks refurbishing the bicycles themselves, while teaching students the importance of road safety and how to keep themselves and others safe on the roads. Students were able to ask questions and learn about infrastructure, road rules, driving fatigue, navigating adverse conditions, pedestrian safety and more throughout these weeks.
Students were able to participate rebuilding the bikes themselves and go on group practice bike rides to help build their endurance and confidence leading up to Ride Day.
This year’s Ride Day comes just after the Swans Roebourne team was recognised for their incredible work during last year’s Build and Ride Program at the 2026 7NEWS Young Achievers Awards for WA.
After the program’s success in 2025, the team was thrilled to be able to expand work with the project this year, educating and engaging a new group of students and further involving the surrounding community.
