Round 2, 2020 WAFLW Team Selection

After a hard fought 1-goal victory against Peel Thunder on the weekend, Round 2’s WAFLW team selection against Claremont was set to be a difficult one for the coaches.

With experienced players Shannon Matthews and Bianca Webb ready to return for their first game of the season, last week’s debutants Courtney Lindgren and Olivia Cripps will make way for them and play in the Reserves and Rogers Cup respectively. Taylor Ferguson will also not be playing this week.

Having beaten the Tigers in four games last season, including the first round of the finals series, our Swans women can’t be complacent with their opponents coming off a tough two point loss against Subiaco last weekend.

Our WAFLW women will need to start strong, applying pressure around the ground and stop Claremont’s quick runners.

Players to watch:

Mikayla and Brianna Hyde are looking at spending more time in the middle, having spent much of their development in the forward or backline. There is plenty of draft talk around the hard working, competitive twins.

Bianca Webb returns to the Swans after spending 2019 on the Fremantle Dockers AFLW side.

Nyra Anderson and Shanae Davison both spent time with Fremantle and West Coasts AFLW sides respectively, as part of the 2020 NAB AFL Women’s Academy, and will be looking to impress onlookers in this shortened season.

Tara Stribley and Mikayla Morrison both kicked two goals each on debut and look dangerous around the big sticks.
