Round 17 Women’s Preview v Peel Thunder

Swan Districts are back home on Saturday in the penultimate round of the WAFLW season with a chance to go a long way to securing a minor premiership taking on Peel Thunder.

Swans had a bye last weekend in the WAFLW competition and now return to action this Saturday when they host Peel at Steel Blue Oval with the match up getting underway at 2pm.

Prior to the bye last weekend and Swan Districts beat West Perth by 18 points at Joondalup while Peel will arrive at Bassendean on Saturday after losing to East Fremantle by 28 points last Sunday.

Coming into the second last round of the season, Swans remain in top position with a 12-2 record to be percentage ahead of Claremont but with the Tigers having the bye this weekend.

Peel, meanwhile, are in last place having lost all 15 matches so far in 2026.

Swan Districts last took on Peel back in Round 10 this year in Mandurah and scored the thumping 19.3 (117) to 4.3 (27) victory.

In that 90-point win, Ash Sharp had a day to remember kicking eight goals for Swans with Summer Yarran adding four, Taylah Edwards three and Madison Fisher two.

Jaime Henry also amassed 49 possessions, Jess Cox 20, Jemma Sly 18, Emma Nanut 17 and Luka Davis 17 while Kaitlan Allen had 13 to go with 10 tackles and 10 hit outs.

Swan Districts co-captain Eliza Gelmi will become the first player at the club to reach 100 WAFLW games on Saturday as well, but she’s just focused on the team and making sure they don’t suffer any sort of a slip up ahead of the finals.

“The competition has been incredibly even this year, so you can’t take any game lightly,” Gelmi said.

“Our focus is on continuing to play our brand of footy and preparing the right way for whatever comes next.”

Coming off a hard fought victory two weeks ago against West Perth and then the bye, Summer Ajduk, Kyah Chirichilli, Grace Hirst, Kayley King and Shaya Yarran are into the side for Swans.

Going out are Courtney Ugle, Kayla Gordon, Keira Fawcett, Tyla Fitzgerald and Emily McGuire.

Peel lost last Sunday at home to East Fremantle by 28 points and from that side, Charlotte Beard and Kyah Suckling come into the line-up to take on Swans.

Going out for the Thunder are Madison Ware and Rebekah Cornwill.

Following the WAFLW game on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval, the Rogers Cup contest will take centre stage between Swan Districts and Peel Thunder getting underway at 4:05pm.

Coming into the second last game of the season, Swan Districts remain in second place in the Rogers Cup and do need to keep winning to stay there while Peel are in bottom spot with just the one win so far in 2026.

Swans improved to the 12-2 record to still remain a chance of the minor premiership two weeks ago with the win over West Perth at Joondalup prior to last week’s bye and now gearing up for the final two matches of the season.

Coming off that win two weeks ago against the Falcons, Keira Fawcett, Shanae Morisey and Zoe Tickner are all back into the line-up for Swan Districts.

Going out of the Rogers Cup team are Katica Borsic, Keeva Martindale and Madeline Wright.

Peel lost to East Fremantle by 78 points last Sunday while only managing one behind for the game with Astania Cheptanaru, Eva Crombie, Paris Simmons and Madison Ware into the team to take on Swan Districts.

Going out for the Thunder are Hayley Sinclair, Sariyah Homer, Aleya Ribbans and Charlise Adams.

The two teams did play one another in Mandurah back in Round 10 and on that occasion it was a 9.7 (61) to 4.3 (27) victory for Swan Districts against Peel.

As part of that win, Lara Sherborne kicked five goals and one each to Layla Hagerstrom, Lily Williamson, Khalia Fawcett and Micaela Henry.
