Round 17 WAFL Women’s Match Report

Swan Districts kept Peel Thunder goalless in the first three quarters of both the WAFL Women’s and Rogers Cup matches on Saturday for two massive wins at home in the penultimate round of the season.

It was the second last round of the 2026 season on Saturday and Swans were playing host to the Thunder at Steel Blue Oval and produced two dominant showings.

That started with the WAFL Women’s match up with Swan Districts ending up winning 12.11 (83) to 1.3 (9).

That result leaves the Swans in top spot with one round to play with a 13-2 record to be both a game and significant percentage ahead of Claremont so that minor premiership does appear secure.

Taylah Edwards kicked three goals in the first quarter in the big win on the way to four for the game with Summer Yarran also kicking three and Ash Sharp two.

Jaime Henry continued her remarkable form in the midfield with another 33 possessions to go with nine tackles while Chloe Reilly gathered 22 disposals, Luka Davis 21, Shaya Yarran 20, Kayley King 18, Tamzyn Beros 18, Summer Ajduk 16 and Rheanae Beagley 15.

Lauren Quaife also had 23 hit outs in the ruck to go with eight touches and four tackles.

It took less than a minute for Swan Districts to make the perfect start to the game with a goal to Ash Sharp.

Then it did take nearly 10 minutes for the next goal but that was kicked by Taylah Edwards and she added two more before quarter-time in a stunning opening with Swans leading by 24 points at the first break having held the Thunder scoreless.

It took a little longer to start the second quarter, but it did begin in a similar fashion with a goal to Sharp before Shaya Yarran also kicked another before half-time with Swans remaining in control with a 40-point lead and Peel yet to trouble the scorers.

Less than two minutes into the second half and Swan Districts had their seventh goal of the game on the board thanks to Summer Yarran who added another also shortly after.

Edwards then kicked her fourth and Swans had three more goals already in seven minutes of the second half. Before three quarter-time, Chloe Reilly kicked another and the margin was out to 63 points at the last change with Peel still yet to score.

The Thunder kicked a goal through Alira Cooper to start the final term, but Swan Districts kicked the last two of the game from Kayley King and a third to Summer Yarran to complete the 74-point victory.

The day then wrapped up on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval with the Rogers Cup contest and that saw a thumping 16.17 (113) to 1.0 (6) victory for Swan Districts against Peel Thunder.

It was a dominant performance from the start by Swans on their home deck with four goals in the opening quarter to nil to already be leading by 29 points at quarter-time.

Peel again went scoreless in the second term with Swan Districts managing another five goals to be leading by 57 by half-time having had 17 scoring shots to nil.

It was a similar story in the third quarter with the Thunder again scoreless while the Swans kicked four more goals to be leading by 85 points at three quarter-time.

Peel did get on the board with a goal to Ellyse Harvey in the final stanza, but Swan Districts also added another four goals for the 107-point thumping win.

The result leaves Swan Districts guaranteed of a top two finish in the Rogers Cup with a 13-2 record now heading into the last round and still a chance to claim top spot with a win against Perth and if East Fremantle loses to West Perth.

Keira Fawcett, Adi Griffith and Lara Sherborne all kicked three goals apiece for Swans while Layla Hagerstrom, Madison Fisher and Addison Hall added two, and there was one to Lily Williamson.
