Swans a part of a record breaking Telethon year
Swan Districts spent Telethon weekend doing what the club does best: getting out in the community and backing a great cause. From the coffee van to the call centre to the outdoor arena, it was a successful day.
Our coffee van was a highlight of the day, run by trained baristas from the Swans Elevate program. Elevate gives people living with disabilities the skills and experience to work in hospitality, and Telethon weekend gave them a busy, public setting to put those skills to work.
The team did a fantastic job serving coffee to the crowd. Programs like Elevate show that when people are given the training and the opportunity, they do more than take part. They shine.
In the morning, Swans players Jaime Henry and Leo Steed went to the Telethon call centre to take donations. Every call helps support children and families across Western Australia, and the two were glad to lend a hand and be part of the effort.
In the afternoon, our wheelchair football team took the field against the Perth Demons. Wheelchair football is fast, physical and competitive, and it gives players of all abilities the chance to pull on a Swans jersey and play the game they love. Thank you to our players, and to everyone who came along to cheer them on.
