Semi Finals WAFLW Match Report

Swan Districts are the first team through to the WAFL Women’s Grand Final for 2026 after a one-point win over Claremont on Sunday and to top it off, the Rogers Cup team also booked their place.

It was a big day on Sunday to open the WAFLW finals for 2026 at Steel Blue Oval with both Swan Districts teams at home and playing off for a spot in the Grand Final that will be held on Sunday August 23 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The Rogers Cup opened the day beating East Fremantle by five points and then in a rematch of last year’s Grand Final that Claremont won by a point in the WAFLW, it was only fitting it was the same margin in favour of Swan Districts in the second semi-final.

Swans held on to beat the Tigers 5.4 (34) to 4.9 (33) to now earn the week off and await their Grand Final opponents with Claremont to take on East Fremantle in the preliminary final.

Having been the leading goalscorer all season in the WAFLW, Ash Sharp kicked another two goals in the win for Swan Districts from four kicks.

Jaime Henry transferred her remarkable home and away season form in the midfield for Swans into the finals with another 23 possessions, 12 tackles and six marks.

Jemma Sly also racked up 20 disposals for the black-and-whites, Isa Edgley 17, Kayley King 14, Summer Ajduk 14, Naomi Baker 12, Luka Davis 12 and Lauren Quaife 10 with 38 hit outs and six tackles in the ruck.

The second semi-final got underway with it taking almost 13 minutes for the first goal to be kicked and that went the way of Swan Districts thanks to Grace Hirst.

Jayde Musika then responded for Claremont and by quarter-time it was the Tigers clinging to the one-point lead.

Swans then opened the second term with an early goal to Chloe Reilly but just before half-time Claremont responded with a goal and by half-time it was two goals apiece with the Tigers clinging to the three-point advantage.

After Claremont kicked the first goal of the second half, Swan Districts took over with a couple of goals to Ash Sharp and another to Summer Ajduk to take a seven-point lead into three quarter-time.

Claremont kicked the only goal of the last quarter but Swan Districts did enough to hold on for the one-point victory to have them as the first team into the WAFLW Grand Final for 2026.

It was the Rogers Cup match up that got things underway at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday morning with both Swan Districts and East Fremantle also playing to book in the first spot in the Grand Final for 2026.

East Fremantle did kick the only goal of the first quarter before Swan Districts hit back impressively in the second term with four goals to go into the half-time break with the 14-point edge.

It was then another three goals to one in favour of the Swans in the third quarter that saw them holding a 27-point lead by three quarter-time.

It did prove enough to secure the win but only just with East Fremantle kicking the lone four goals of the last quarter but Swans held on for the 7.6 (48) to 6.7 (43) victory.

Adi Griffith, Keira Fawcett and Charlotte Cousin all kicked two goals apiece in the win for Swan Districts with Zoe Tickner adding one.

The result means that Swans are locked into the Rogers Cup Grand Final and they await their winner after the preliminary final between East Fremantle and Subiaco.
