Swan Districts only kicked three goals in three quarters at home on Saturday afternoon but then delivered a dazzling final quarter with seven goals to run over the top of Perth for the memorable 11-point victory.
It was a big day on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval as part of the WA Day long weekend with Big Freeze celebrations to raise funds to fight MND making it a memorable occasion as Swans played host to the Demons.
Perth kicked the only five goals of the first quarter and then were still leading by 30 points at three quarter-time, but what the Swans then delivered in the final term was remarkable.
Swan Districts kicked the only seven goals in that last term to turn the 30-point deficit into the 10.9 (69) to 8.10 (58) victory to improve to a 3-5 record on the season to stay right in touch of a finals position.
Jovan Petric kicked two of those seven last quarter goals for Swan Districts with Jiah Reidy ending up with two as well on the back of what’s been a big couple of weeks including playing in his first State game.
Swan Districts captain Jesse Turner had another standout performance made up of 30 possessions, eight marks and four inside-50 entries.
Jackson McLachlan also ended up with 25 disposals, Josh Cipro 24, Blake Kelly 20, Jake Pasini 16, Leo Steed 16 and Kade Chalcraft 15 while Lucas Impey had a strong showing in the ruck with 10 touches to go with 36 hit outs and 12 tackles.
It was a dominant start to open the game from Perth with the visitors managing to kick the only five goals of the first quarter to go into quarter-time leading by 30 points.
Perth then also kicked the first goal of the second term before Swan Districts finally got on the board thanks to Jackson McLachlan at the 15-minute mark.
The Demons added one more again before half-time to be leading by 39 points with Swans having managed just the one goal up to that point.
Swans did manage the first goal of the third quarter to Chase Loftus and then the last through Jiah Reidy, but still it was a 30-point edge for the Demons at three quarter-time.
Swan Districts then produced a dazzling final quarter performance with two goals to Jovan Petric and one each to Luke Kelly, Reidy, Zach Provest, Blake Kelly and Leigh Kohlmann to come from 30 points down for the 11-point win.
The day’s action at Steel Blue Oval got underway on Saturday morning with the Colts match up with Swan Districts going on to score the 14.10 (94) to 5.13 (43) win against Perth.
It was two goals apiece in the opening quarter before Swans added another three to one in the second term to head into the half-time break leading by 26 points.
It was another five goals to one in the third quarter for the black-and-whites and then four to one in the last to secure the 51-point win to improve to a 3-4 record this season in the Colts.
Cooper Dudfield had a day out up forward for Swan Districts kicking seven goals from 16 kicks and seven marks with Tyler Jackson also kicking two.
Jai Debono racked up 26 possessions, Jaxon Ozanne 21, Reeve Sheldon 21, Taj Rowe 16, Alon Berman 15, Jake Mills 15 and Travis Puertollano 15.
That led into the Reserves clash at Steel Blue Oval and the winning continued for Swan Districts with the 14.10 (94) to 7.8 (50) victory against Perth.
Swans started on fire with the only five goals of the first quarter before still remaining in control with the 23-point edge going into the half-time interval.
It was another three goals to two in the third term for the Swans as the lead got out to 33 points by three quarter-time before four more goals to two in the last quarter on the way to the 44-point win to improve to a perfect 7-0 record on the season.
Henrick Alforque, Anthony Hansen, Harley Cummings and Otis Harvey all kicked two goals apiece in the win for the Swans in the Reserves.
Chayse Martinson finished with 30 possessions, Harvey 29, Luke Cotellessa 26, Brad Lynch 23, Ben Hewett 23, Lewis Tester and Tom Cathcart 21.
