Round 9 WAFL Women’s Match Report

Swan Districts kicked the last goal of the game on Friday night thanks to Summer Yarran to secure the thrilling four-point WAFL Women’s victory against Subiaco.

Swan Districts came into the Friday night match up at Sullivan Logistics Stadium to open the WA Day long weekend trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season the previous week against Claremont.

They were taking on a Subiaco team having won four of seven matches so far in 2026 and it proved a tight battle all the way through the evening.

In the end, it was a late goal from Yarran that delivered the 4.9 (33) to 4.5 (29) victory to Swan Districts in thrilling fashion to keep them on top of the WAFL Women’s ladder by the end of Round 9 with the 7-1 record.

The goals in the win for Swan Districts were kicked by Adi Griffith, Naomi Baker, Emily McGuire and then Summer Yarran with what was the game winner.

Jaime Henry was again the star in the midfield for the Swans finishing with 19 possessions, nine tackles and five entries inside the forward 50.

Baker also finished with 18 disposals, Yarran 16, Chloe Reilly 15, Luka Davis 15, Jess Cox 15, Taylah Edwards 14, Griffith 14, Jemma Sly 14, Tamzyn Beros 14 and Lauren Quaife eight to go with 27 hit outs.

It was Subiaco who got the better of the start on Friday night with an early goal to Courtney Lindgren but just before quarter-time Swan Districts responded with a goal to Emily McGuire to be leading by three points at quarter-time.

There wasn’t a goal kicked by either team in the second quarter with Swan Districts adding another four behinds as did the Lions meaning Swans went into the half-time break still leading by three points.

Adi Griffith did kick an early goal to start the second half with Swans pushing out to a 10-point lead, but Subiaco hit back with two goals before three quarter-time and that saw the Lions heading into three quarter-time with the one-point edge.

Naomi Baker put Swan Districts back in front with an early goal in the last quarter before Subiaco got another at the 11-minute mark to grab the lead back before it was Summer Yarran at the 14-minute mark who put Swans back in front and that’s where they stayed.

The Rogers Cup contest got things underway back on Friday evening at Sullivan Logistics Stadium and it was Subiaco ending up beating Swan Districts 6.5 (41) to 3.4 (22).

Swan Districts did start strongly with two goals to one in the first quarter to be leading by five points at quarter-time before going scoreless in the second term while Subiaco kicked three goals to go into half-time leading by 16 points.

Subiaco then also kicked the only goal of the third quarter and then it was a goal apiece in the last term with the Lions winning by 19 points with Swan Districts now sitting on a 6-2 record having lost the past two matches.

The goals for Swan Districts were kicked by Madi Fisher, Zoe Tickner and Charlotte Cousin.
