Round 4 Men’s Preview v West Coast

Swan Districts are fresh off their breakthrough WAFL Men’s win of the 2026 season and will look to back it up against the West Coast Eagles at Mineral Resources Park on Sunday afternoon as part of the Anzac Day weekend.

After two losses to start the Men’s season, Swan Districts broke through for a first win of 2026 and now will look toback  that up against a team they have never lost against in the WAFL.

Swans have won all 12 meetings against the Eagles so far dating back to 2019. Now if they can keep that run going on Sunday at the Lathlain venue, then they will be steady at a 2-2 record with momentum beginning to build this season.

Sunday’s game will also be the second straight game that Swans and the Eagles have met at Mineral Resources Park with all of the first 11 match ups taking place at Steel Blue Oval.

Both teams bring winning form into the Sunday match up across Anzac Day weekend as well setting up a tantalising contest.

Swans beat West Perth by 22 points last Saturday at Steel Blue Oval to open their account for 2026 with Jiah Reidy kicked four goals with Jehb O’Donohue, Josh Cipro and Zach Provest all adding two apiece.

Captain Jesse Turner also collected 32 possessions, Jarvis Pina 30, Zane Trew 23, Cipro 23, Kade Chalcraft 22 and Clint Hinchliffe 20 along with kicking the first goal of his WAFL career.

The Eagles also won a second game in three attempts this season by beating Subiaco by 27 points in an impressive performance in a home game at Mineral Resources Park on Sunday.

In that win, Malakai Champion kicked three goals with Matt Owies, Harvey Johnston and Clay Hall all adding two with Tom Gross picking up 29 possessions, Finaly Macrae 28, Hall 27, Lucca Grego 26, Tom Cole 24 and Matt Flynn 24 to go with 51 hit outs in the ruck.

Swan Districts are still yet to lose to West Coast in the WAFL and are the only team in the competition to be able to say that.

The first 11 meetings between the two teams all took place at Steel Blue Oval with Swan Districts winning each of those by an average of 33 points with it including some thrilling wins by two, three and four points, and some thumpings by 85, 81 and 64 along the way.

Then in Round 19 last year, the first game between the two outfits was held away from Bassendean with the Eagles having a home game at Lathlain’s Mineral Resources Park.

It turned out to be a thrilling contest in Round 19 between two teams destined to not play finals with the Swans coming away with the nail-biting five-point victory to go to 12-0 against the Eagles in the process.

With the League team playing the Eagles for Anzac Round, both the Colts and Reserves have the Round 4 bye for Swan Districts.

The Reserves are coming off a thumping 74-point victory against West Perth last Saturday at Steel Blue Oval which gave them three wins from the opening three matches by an average of 42 points to be sitting on top of the ladder.

The Colts, meanwhile, went down to West Perth by 42 points last Saturday at home to now be winless so far this season but with plenty of players finding their feet and earning opportunities to show encouraging signs.
