Round 3 WAFL Men’s Match Report

Swan Districts kicked five of the last six goals of the game to secure the first win of the WAFL Men’s season with the 22-point victory against West Perth at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.

Both teams came into the Round 3 WAFL Men’s match up hunting a first win of the season and Swan Districts did fall 21 points down during the second quarter.

The Falcons were still up by seven 10 minutes into the second half, but the Swans took over from there with the last three goals of the third quarter, and then with two goals to one in the final term to secure the 12.14 (86) to 9.10 (64) win to open their account for 2026.

Jiah Reidy ended up kicking four goals from 14 possessions and five tackles in the win for Swans in the 104th game of his WAFL career.

Jehb O’Donohue also kicked two crucial goals to go with 16 possessions and 10 tackles while Josh Cipro kicked two with 23 disposals and Zach Provest was the other multiple goal scorer with two.

Captain Jesse Turner racked up another 31 possessions in the win for Swans with Jarvis Pina finishing with 30 disposals, Zane Trew 23, Kade Chalcraft 22, Clint Hinchliffe 20, Bryce Watson 19, Luke Kelly 18 and Max Chipper 17.

Swan Districts were back home and hunting a first win of the season and made the perfect start with a goal to Jiah Reidy inside the first four minutes.

West Perth did respond with the next couple but then Clint Hinchliffe kicked the first goal of his WAFL career in his third game and it just happened to be against the team he played Colts with before starting his professional cricket career.

West Perth did end up with another and got out to a 10-point lead but just before the quarter-time siren Josh Cipro kicked truly as Swans brought the deficit back to just four points.

West Perth then managed the first three goals of the second term to get out by 21 points but Swan Districts responded before half-time with goals to Cipro, Zach Provest and Reidy to make it just a three-point deficit at the major break.

After both teams traded a couple of goals each to start the second half, Swan Districts took charge late in the third term with goals to Jehb O’Donohue and Reidy to go into the three quarter-time break leading by 13 points.

Swans then completed the job for the first win of the season by kicking the last two goals of the game through O’Donohue and Jovan Petric to secure the 22-point victory at home.

The Swan Districts Reserves started the day at Steel Blue Oval by continuing their undefeated start to the season with the thumping 18.14 (122) to 6.12 (48) victory against West Perth.

Having won their opening two games against South Fremantle and East Perth, Swans looked to keep the momentum going and kicked three goals to one in the first quarter.

Swans then took over further in the second term with six goals to one and that saw them well in command leading by 44 points at half-time.

It was another five goals to nil in the third quarter and then four goals each in the last term saw Swan Districts cruise to the eventual 74-point victory to improve to 3-0 to start the season.

Chayse Martinson kicked another three goals in the win to go with 20 possessions with Otis Harvey and Anthony Hansen kicking two goals apiece.

Nathan Blakely went back to the Reserves and dominated with 36 possessions, 13 hit outs, 12 marks and a goal.

Ben Hewett also racked up 32 disposals, Harvey 28, Blake Kelly 25, Chase Loftus 23, Brodyn Fitzgerald 23, Luke Cotellessa 23, Ethyn Kane 20, Tyrone Virgo 20 and Darcy Miller 18.

It wasn’t the finish to the day at Steel Blue Oval that Swan Districts were hoping for with West Perth’s Colts scoring the 12.11 (83) to 5.11 (41) victory.

Swans were attempting to win a first game of the season against a West Perth team also yet to win in 2026 albeit having played just the once coming into the contest.

The Falcons got the better of the start with five goals to one in the first quarter and then with another three to two in the second went into half-time leading by 29 points.

It was another four goals to two in the second half as well from West Perth as they secured the 42-point victory.

Cooper Dudfield kicked two goals for Swan Districts from eight kicks and six marks.

Jai Debono also collected 26 possessions, Reeve Sheldon 21, Tal Allan 20, Charlie Crotty 20, Travis Puertollano 20, Xavier Daniel 19, Jake Mills 17, Hayden Young 17 and Lloyd Browne 16.
