Round 2 Men’s Preview v East Perth
Having started the season hosting the reigning WAFL Men’s premiers, Swan Districts now complete the double against the other grand finalist from last year when playing East Perth on the road on Saturday.
It was always going to be a challenging start to the WAFL Men’s season for Swan Districts against the two grand final teams first up from last year, and now they tick off the second of those this Saturday at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Swan Districts will take on East Perth with the league game getting underway at 2:10pm while the reserves get the day’s action underway at 11:25am.
The colts match up will take place at Joondalup’s HIF Health Insurance Oval and that will be underway from 9:15am on Sunday morning.
Both teams come into the Round 2 league match up on Saturday afternoon hunting their first wins of the 2026 WAFL Men’s season as well.
Swan Districts played host to the reigning premiers South Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval on Good Friday. It was a tight battle for three quarters before the Bulldogs pulled away to hand Swans the 45-point opening round defeat.
East Perth is coming into the season having lost each of the past two grand finals to Peel Thunder and South Fremantle respectively. The Royals started the new season on Good Friday with a seven-point defeat to Subiaco in a high-scoring thriller with both teams combining for 35 goals.
Coming into Saturday’s contest and East Perth have beaten Swan Districts in the last three meetings between the two teams including both match ups in 2025 by a combined 95 points.
The last win for the Swans against the Royals came back in Round 12 of the 2024 season. That was a one-point thriller that went their way at Steel Blue Oval on the way to reaching the preliminary final later that year.
Coming off the Good Friday loss at home to South Fremantle, there are three changes to the Swan Districts team to take on East Perth with Seb Bright, Leo Steed and Lucas Impey into the line-up.
Going out for the black-and-whites are Brodyn Fitzgerald, Brad Lynch and Nathan Ireland.
East Perth has also made four changes from their team that lost to Subiaco on Good Friday with Will Cassidy, Mitch Schofield, Kade Screaigh and Jake Soutar coming in.
Going out for the Royals are Damon Freitag, James Sturrock, Jordyn Baker and Jayden Peak.
The reserves match up will begin at the Leederville venue at 11:25am with Swan Districts trying to back up their Good Friday victory against South Fremantle to make it a 2-0 opening to the new season.
East Perth started their season in the reserves with a thumping 71-point win last Friday as well against Subiaco also at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Meanwhile, it’s a Colts Super Round this weekend at HIF Health Insurance Oval and that will see Swan Districts play East Perth on Sunday morning.
The colts for Swans opened up the season on Good Friday with a 29-point loss at home to South Fremantle and will now try to bounce back from that against a Royals team who scored a three-goal victory against Subiaco last Friday morning.
