Round 13 WAFLW Match Report

Swan Districts do remain on top of the WAFL Women’s ladder by the end of Round 13 but they played a second thriller with Subiaco of the 2026 season on Saturday with the Lions this time prevailing by five points.

Swan Districts hosted Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon looking to keep winning to remain clear on top of the ladder while the Lions arrived trying to keep their own finals prospects alive.

Swans did get off to a strong start on their home deck with the only two goals of the first quarter before still leading by eight points at half-time, and then scores were all level by three quarter-time.

Subiaco ended up kicking the only goal of the last quarter to secure the 5.1 (31) to 3.8 (26) victory but Swan Districts do remain in top spot despite the result with a 10-2 record now on the season.

The goals for Swans were kicked by Grace Hirst, Luka Davis and Keira Fawcett with Davis also finishing with 20 possessions and eight tackles for the game.

Jaime Henry continued her standout season for Swan Districts with another 28 disposals to go with 14 tackles, five inside-50 entries and three marks.

Jess Cox also finished with 19 touches for the black-and-whites, Jemma Sly 15, Rheanae Beagley 15, Taylah Edwards 13, Fawcett 12, Kayla Gordon 12 and Demi Liddle 12.

It was a flying start to the game for Swan Districts with goals from Grace Hirst and Luka Davis and after holding Subiaco scoreless in the first quarter, the home team was leading by 13 points at quarter-time.

Subiaco did get on the board early in the second quarter with their first goal of the game. That would be the only major of the term with Swan Districts still leading by eight points heading into the half-time break.

The Lions then got right back into the contest with the first two goals of the third term to grab the lead and then push out to a seven-point lead before scores were all level by three quarter-time thanks to a late Sawn Districts goal from Keira Fawcett.

But Subiaco would kick the only goal of the last quarter as well inside the first two minutes before then holding on for the five-point victory for the second thrilling contest between the two teams with a win each now in 2026.

It was the Rogers Cup contest that got things underway on Saturday morning at Steel Blue Oval and Swan Districts scored the 9.4 (58) to 2.9 (21) victory against Subiaco.

It was a scorching start from Swans with the only four goals of the first quarter. Then with a goal each in the second, the home team went into the half-time break leading by 23 points.

Swan Districts then dominated the third term too with the only four goals to be out to a 47-point advantage, and securing the win by 37 in the finish to improve to a 10-2 record on the season to remain solid in second position on the Rogers Cup ladder.

Lily Williamson and Lara Sherborne both kicked three goals in the big win for Swans with one goal each to Madi Fisher, Zoe Tickner and Adi Griffith.
