Round 13 Men’s Preview v West Perth

Swan Districts head to Joondalup on Saturday looking to return to the WAFL Men’s winner’s list and to score a second victory against West Perth for the 2026 season in the process.

Swans will take on the Falcons at HIF Health Insurance Oval on Saturday afternoon with the League clash getting underway at 3:10pm.

Coming into the game and Swan Districts are sitting in ninth position on the ladder entering Round 13 while West Perth are in bottom spot at 1-10.

Swan Districts did plenty right last week against Subiaco at Leederville including leading by 16 points in the third quarter before suffering the four-point defeat in the finish while West Perth are coming off an 88-point hammering at the hands of Peel Thunder also at Joondalup last Saturday.

It’s the second clash of the season between the two teams with the last meeting back in Round 3 at Steel Blue Oval with Swan Districts scoring the 12.14 (86) to 9.10 (64) win over West Perth on that occasion.

In that win, Jiah Reidy kicked four goals for Swans with two each to Josh Cipro, Zach Provest and Jehb O’Donohue with Jesse Turner racking up 31 possessions, Jarvis Pina 29, Zane Trew 23, Cipro 23, Kade Chalcraft 20 and Clint Hinchliffe 20.

Swan Districts coach Andrew Pruyn reflected on taking plenty of positives out of last week’s narrow loss to Subiaco especially with the young players being blooded as they look to now get back to winning against West Perth this Saturday.

“Certainly during the game we obviously felt like we had done enough at different points to get the result, but upon reflection and review, while incredible disappointed and have to take some positives away,” Pruyn told 91.3 SportFM.

“At one of the stoppages reviewed was when we had Otis Harvey, Luke Cotellessa, Harley Cummings and Chase Loftus as our midfield so they’re really young players that learning and developing so it’s exciting as well that we’re able to blood some of these young kids.

“There’s plenty to learn and take from but it’s still disappointing nonetheless to not get over the line.”

Coming of the tight loss to Subiaco last Saturday, there’s no reprieve on the injury front for Swan Districts with Jackson McLachlan, Jiah Reidy and Lewis Tester going out of the team.

They now join Jye Chalcraft, Jake Pasini, Zane Trew, Jehb O’Donohue, Jovan Petric and Zach Provest out of the line-up.

Coming in for Swan Districts are the returning Seb Bright from suspension along with Max Chipper and Blake Kelly.

West Perth also find themselves desperate for a win with Ryan Gallen, Luke Michael and Zac Sprigg into the team to take on Swans with Kai Dehavilland, Connor West and Aidan Nelson going out.

The day gets underway at Joondalup with the Reserves contest at 12:25pm between West Perth and Swan Districts.

Swans will be trying to back up last week’s win over Subiaco by 30 points at Leederville while West Perth also had a 15-point win at home to Peel Thunder so both teams come into the clash in winning form in the Reserves.

Courtesy of that win last week, Swan Districts remain in top spot of the Reserves with a perfect 9-0 record while West Perth are second coming into Saturday’s match up at 7-3.

The Colts will then be in action on Saturday night with the game getting underway at 6pm at HIF Health Insurance Oval with Swans trying to respond to last week’s loss to Subiaco with West Perth out to back up their win at home to Peel Thunder.

Coming into the Round 13 match up and Swan Districts do need a win in the Colts to stay in the finals hunt currently sitting in seventh position with a 3-6 record as they take on the fourth placed West Perth who are 5-5.
