Round 12 WAFLW Match Report

Chloe Reilly and Keira Fawcett kicked four goals each and Jaime Henry smashed her own WAFLW disposals record as Swan Districts retained top spot with the 69-point win over South Fremantle.

Swan Districts took on South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday and continued their hot form in the WAFL Women’s competition with nine goals to one in the first half.

The eventual 16.5 (101) to 5.2 (32) victory keeps the Swans in top spot with a 10-1 record to remain a game and percentage ahead of Claremont by the end of Round 12.

Reilly and Fawcett both kicked four goals in the win for Swan Districts while they both also collected 19 possessions and each of them took four marks in the big win.

Ash Sharp also kicked another three goals for the Swans and Emma Nanut two to go with 13 possessions.

Then of course, there was Henry who smashed her own disposals record for a game in the WAFL Women’s competition by racking up 51 possessions to go with eight marks, seven inside-50 entries and three tackles.

Luka Davis then amassed 21 touches for the black-and-whites, Jess Cox 21, Jemma Sly 20, Isa Edgley 18 and Tamzyn Beros 15 to go with 11 hit outs.

Swan Districts made a flying start to the two with Ash Sharp kicking two early goals on the same oval she played home matches with back in her time in the AFLW with the Fremantle Dockers.

Swans also closed the opening term with goals to Emma Nanut and Taylah Edwards to be leading by 25 points at quarter-time.

Sharp kicked her third goal inside the opening minute of the second quarter and Keira Fawcett soon added another before South Fremantle got on the board thanks to Makaela Tuhakaraina.

The Swans answered with goals to Grace Hirst, Chloe Reilly and then again Fawcett before half-time where they went into the break with the 49-point advantage.

South Fremantle did start well with the first two goals of the second half from Annalie Polimeno and Madi Hadley only for Swans to respond courtesy of Emma Nanut and with a second to Reilly.

The teams then traded goals before three quarter-time through Shannyn Pomersbach and Fawcett with Swan Districts going into three quarter-time leading by 49 points.

Polimeno then kicked a second to start the last quarter but from there Swans kicked the game’s last four goals with two more to Reilly, a fourth to Fawcett and another to Summer Yarran for the 69-point victory.

The action on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval got underway with the Rogers Cup contest and that saw Swan Districts prove too strong for South Fremantle with the eventual 6.6 (42) to 2.6 (18) victory.

The win improves Swan Districts to a 9-2 record to remain in second position in the Rogers Cup just percentage behind East Fremantle by the end of Round 12.

It was a flying start to the game from the Swans away from home with the only three goals of the first quarter and even with the Bulldogs kicking the only goal of the second term, the visitors were still leading by eight points at half-time.

Swans then kicked another two goals to one in the third quarter and the only goal of the final stanza on the way to the 24-point victory.

Madi Fisher had an impressive performance up forward for Swan Districts to end up kicking four goals with one apiece to Isla McAulay and Lara Sherborne.
