Dougan and Knighton Scoreboard unveiled
For our eagle-eyed supporters, you may have noticed a new sign erected on the Scoreboard last Saturday. The scoreboard at Steel Blue Oval is now called the Dougan Knighton Scoreboard.
The naming of the scoreboard is in honour and acknowledgement of two of our longest serving scoreboard attendants – Jim Dougan and Kevin Knighton.
Kevin Knighton was the scoreboard attendant for 23 consecutive seasons, between 1972 to 1994. Back in the day, the scoreboard attendant’s role was more than just showcasing the match score. It would also display the around the ground scores, as well as the race results.
Jim Dougan first took on the scoreboard attendant role in 1995, sharing the role with Ted Martin for the 95, 96 and 97 seasons. He then took on the role, from 1998 to 2020 inclusive, for a total of 26 seasons.
Combined, Kevin Knighton and Jim Dougan have been the scoreboard attendants for a total of 49 seasons out of the club’s 92 year history.
