Round 8 Women’s Preview v Claremont

It’s the second WAFLW  grand final rematch already for 2026 when Swan Districts hosts Claremont on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval.

The WAFLW season for 2026 resumes this weekend following the break for the State game last week which saw Western Australia dominate against South Australia with the 15.9 (99) to 1.1 (7) win.

As part of that win, Swan Districts players Jaime Henry and Lauren Quaife were part of the triumph while Jayme Harken, Ruby Sargent-Wilson, Jess Freame, Juliet Kelly and Matilda Sergeant were out there from Claremont.

They now go from teammates to rivals again eight days later for the Round 8 WAFLW match up this Sunday afternoon that gets underway at Steel Blue Oval at 12:10pm.

It shapes as a mouth watering contest as well with Swan Districts having so far gone through the season undefeated winning all six matches to be two games clear in top spot while Claremont are second at 4-2 on the back of winning the past two premierships.

After meeting in the grand final last year when Claremont won a heart stopper by that solitary point, the 2026 season started with a rematch with Swan Districts scoring the 41-point win at Revo Fitness Stadium.

On that day, Ash Sharp celebrated her return to Swans by kicking three goals while Jaime Henry racked up 32 possessions and 12 tackles with Alana Barba gathering 20 disposals, Jess Cox 17, Isa Edgley 16 and Jemma Sly 15.

Swan Districts ruck Lauren Quaife is fresh off playing in that State game triumph last Saturday and will be celebrating her 100th WAFLW appearance on Sunday, and is looking forward to another battle with Claremont for the occasion.

“It’ll be strange to go from playing with lots of the Claremont girls on the weekend to versing them this week but it’ll be a great challenge,” Quaife said.

“Claremont will not like their only loss being against us and we won’t want to break our winning streak so it’ll be a hard game but great contest.

“I have missed not being out there with the Swans girls the last two weeks so I’m looking forward to getting the win in at home.”

The Rogers Cup contest will get things underway on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval with Swan Districts also taking on Claremont with the game beginning at 10:05am.

Following the first seven rounds of the Rogers Cup season, Swan Districts have won all six of their matches and done so by an average of 27 points.

Swans haven’t played in the Rogers Cup either for three weeks now with their last game back on May 3 where they beat East Perth by 31 points at Leederville.

They also beat the Tigers back in the opening round of the season by 20 points at Revo Fitness Stadium.

Claremont will now arrive at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday with a 4-2 record in the Rogers Cup and having lost last up to East Fremantle by 74 points two weeks ago at The Good Grocer Park prior to the State game break.
