Every winning run comes to an end eventually and Swan Districts suffered their first losses of both the WAFL Women’s and Rogers Cup seasons on Sunday at the hands of Claremont.
Swan Districts played host to the Tigers at Steel Blue Oval as the season resumed and both black-and-whites teams put their undefeated records on the line.
The day started with Claremont beating Swan Districts 8.3 (51) to 4.5 (29) in the Rogers Cup and then backing up with the 6.7 (43) to 1.4 (10) victory in the WAFL Women’s grand final rematch.
Swan Districts did manage just the one goal in the game which came in the first quarter courtesy of Ash Sharp.
Jaime Henry also picked up another 24 possessions for Swan Districts in the midfield to go with 11 tackles.
Naomi Baker also laid 10 tackles to go with 16 possessions with Jemma Sly finishing with 16 disposals, Jess Cox 16, Taylah Edwards 14, Adi Griffith 14, Summer Yarran 13, Chloe Reilly 12 and Kayla Gordon 12.
Lauren Quaife was also playing her 100th game in the WAFL Women’s and she put in another strong showing in the ruck with 16 possessions, 23 hit outs and six tackles.
After Claremont kicked the first goal of the game through Jayme Harken, Swan Districts immediately responded through Ash Sharp but it was the Tigers on top by six points at quarter-time.
Claremont ended up kicking the only goal of the second quarter to go into half-time leading by 11 points before then kicking two goals in the third term as well to be out to a 26-point advantage by three quarter-time.
The Tigers then kicked the only goal of the final term as well to secure the 33-point win to leave things all square at a win apiece this season between the two grand final combatants from last year.
It was the Rogers Cup contest that got things underway on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval and Swan Districts weren’t quite able to remain undefeated in 2026 with Claremont going on to score the 8.3 (51) to 4.5 (29) victory.
The Swans came into the game having won the opening six matches of the season including against Claremont back in Round 1 with the Tigers kicking two goals to one in the opening quarter.
Swans then weren’t able to score in the second quarter with Claremont managing another two goals to be leading by 17 points at half-time.
Even though Swan Districts did kick a goal in third quarter, the Tigers added another three to open up a 30-point lead and even with Swans kicking two goals in the last term, Claremont still managed to score the 22-point win.
Lara Sherborne ended up kicking two goals for Swan Districts with one each from Charli Grau and Lily Williamson with Karri Parnham, Zoe Tickner and Jaya Abbott among the standout performers despite the result.
