Round 6 WAFL Men’s Match Report
It was a full day of winning for the League, Reserves and Colts Swan Districts teams on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval against East Fremantle.
It was the last WAFL Men’s round before the State game break next weekend and Swan Districts ensured they will go into that with high spirits with the big day at home to East Fremantle.
The afternoon wrapped up with a big League victory for the black-and-whites to get a second win on the board for the season with the 16.9 (105) to 9.9 (63) victory against the Sharks.
Jovan Petric played the best game of his short WAFL career with four goals for Swan Districts from nine kicks and nine marks.
Jiah Reidy also kicked three goals including taking a spectacular mark that led to one of them with Jackson McLachlan and Caleb Ernst also kicking two apiece.
Swan Districts captain Jesse Turner amassed another 29 possessions with Clint Hinchliffe adding 25, Zane Trew 24, Ayden Cartwright 22, Luke Kelly 21, Bryce Watson 19, Chase Loftus 17 and Zach Provest 14.
Swan Districts were hunting the second win of the season but it was East Fremantle who started the better with the first goal inside three minutes.
Leo Steed did finally get the Swans on the board at the 12-minute mark and then after the Sharks kicked a second, the home team took over closing the first quarter with a couple of quick goals to Jovan Petric, another to Jiah Reidy and then Jackson McLachlan and Ayden Cartwright.
Thanks to those last five goals of the term, the Swans were on top by 21 points at quarter-time.
East Fremantle again started the second quarter well with the first couple of goals but once more Swan Districts responded with goals to Reidy, McLachlan, Caleb Ernst, Petric and Ernst again to hold a commanding 42-point advantage by half-time.
Swan Districts this time kicked the first two goals of the third quarter from Zane Trew and Luke Kelly for the lead to get out to 55 points and it was still at 50 by three quarter-time.
It took 11 minutes for a goal in the last quarter and that went the way of East Fremantle before at the 18-minute mark, Leigh Kohlmann kicked one for Swan Districts to push the lead out to 49 points on the way to the eventual 42-point triumph.
The Colts match got things underway on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval with Swan Districts scoring the 15.15 (105) to 10.6 (66) victory against East Fremantle.
The Sharks did manage to kick three goals to two in the first quarter to be leading by two points but then the Swans got rolling in the second term.
They kicked six goals to two from East Fremantle to go into the half-time break leading by 21 points.
It was still Swan Districts leading by 16 points at three quarter-time and then another five goals to three in the last stanza saw them secure the 39-point victory.
The win is a first of the season for Swans in the Colts with them now holding a 1-4 record.
Ethan Scharenguivel kicked four goals in the win for Swan Districts with Lebron Yarran also kicking three, Cooper Dudfield two and Jai Debono two.
Debono also racked up 31 possessions, Charlie Crotty 21, Alon Berman 19, Lucas Barry 17, Travis Puertollano 17, Josh Hardeman 16 and Brayden Lee-Gowland 10 to go with 29 hit outs.
The Reserves were up next at Steel Blue Oval and it was a thumping 20.15 (135) to 2.6 (18) win for Swan Districts against East Fremantle.
Swans shot out of the blocks with the only six goals of the first quarter before another three goals to two in the second to go into half-time leading by 46 points.
East Fremantle then only managed three behinds in all of the second half with Swan Districts kicking five goals in the third term, and six in the last to go on to win by 117 points to improve to a perfect 5-0 record.
Jez Rigoni kicked three goals in the win to go with 28 possessions, 11 marks and eight inside-50 entries.
Anthony Hansen also kicked three goals, Tom Smith two, Harley Cummings two and Will Smith two.
Luke Cotellessa also racked up 35 possessions, Blake Kelly 35, Brad Lynch 30, Ethyn Kane 28, Otis Harvey 25, Chayse Martinson 23, Max Bain 21, Tom Oliver 19 and Soren Feast 17.
