Round 2 WAFLW Match Report
The blistering start to the 2026 WAFLW season for Swan Districts continued on Good Friday with the emphatic 48-point victory at home to South Fremantle.
Coming off last year’s heartbreaking one-point grand final loss to Claremont, Swans started the 2026 season beating the Tigers on the road in Round 1 before hosting the Bulldogs at Steel Blue Oval on Good Friday.
South Fremantle were also coming off a first up win against East Fremantle, but Swan Districts dominated the Round 2 match up including kicking the only six goals of the first half on the way to the eventual 10.5 (65) to 2.5 (17) victory.
Taylah Edwards kicked three goals in the win for Swan Districts from nine kicks with four marks while Ashley Sharp made the most of her opportunities with three goals as well from four kicks.
Summer Yarran also kicked two goals from her 10 kicks for the game.
Jaime Henry is continuing to emerge as one of the best midfielders in the country not with an AFLW home. She had another 38 possessions with six marks, five tackles and four inside-50 entries.
Returning former captain Jess Cox also had 27 disposals in the win for Swans while Naomi Baker gathered 22 touches, Tamzyn Beros 19, Kayley King 17, Isa Edgley 16, Luka Davis 15, Summer Ajduk 15 and Lauren Quaife 14 in the ruck to go with 24 hit outs.
It took more than 15 minutes for the first goal of the contest and that went the way of Swan Districts thanks to Tyla Fitzgerald which saw the home team go into quarter-time leading by four points.
The Swans then made the flying start to the second quarter with a goal at the five-minute mark to Ashley Sharp and another seven minutes in from Taylah Edwards.
Swan Districts closed the first half with three more goals in five minutes thanks to Summer Yarran, Naomi Baker and Edwards, and those five goals to nil in the second term had the black-and-whites leading by 37 points going into half-time.
Swans kept that momentum going into the second half with a third goal to Edwards before Yarran also kicked her second to stretch the lead to 49 points before Shannyn Pomersbach managed a first goal of the game just before three quarter-time for South Fremantle.
The Swans closed out the game with two more goals in the last quarter from Sharp to complete the 48-point WAFL Women’s victory.
There was Good Friday eve action on Thursday night also at Steel Blue Oval with the Rogers Cup match up and that saw Swan Districts scoring the 10.7 (67) to 4.5 (29) win on their home deck against South Fremantle.
Swans made the fast start with three goals to one in the opening quarter under lights before the home team then added two more goals to one in the second term to head into half-time leading by 19 points.
The black-and-whites kicked away further with three more goals to one in the third quarter and then another two to one in the fourth on the way to the eventual 38-point victory.
Madi Fisher kicked two goals in the win for Swan Districts as did Rheanae Beagley while there was a goal apiece from Sienna Gerardi, Zoe Tickner, Adi Griffith, Remy Davis, Lily Williamson and Lilyanah Baker.
