Round 13 Women’s Preview v Subiaco
Swan Districts remain in top spot in the WAFL Women’s competition and will look to maintain that place when they take on Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval this Saturday.
While Swans are in top spot and the Lions are seventh coming into Round 13 of the 2026 season, last time they met it was a tight battle and all the signs points to the same happening at Bassendean this Saturday.
The WAFL Women’s clash will get underway at 12:10pm with Swans fresh off beating South Fremantle last Sunday by 69 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval while Subiaco went down at the same time to East Fremantle at Leederville.
That leaves Swans in first place with a 10-1 record this season coming into Round 13 while the Lions are 4-7 in seventh position but still in finals contention making it a big contest for both teams this week.
It was only back in Round 9 and less than a month ago when the two teams last did battle in the WAFL Women’s and on that Friday night at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, Swans were able to escape with the four-point victory against the Lions.
That was on the back of Swan Districts kicking two goals to one in the last quarter to get away with the win with Jaime Henry finishing with 19 possessions, Naomi Baker 18, Summer Yarran 16, Chloe Reilly 15, Luka Davis 15 and Jess Cox 15.
Speaking of Reilly, she was one of the new additions to the Swan Districts team in 2026 and fresh off kicking four goals last week against South Fremantle.
The premiership winning forward is looking forward to the team trying to keep that hot form going this Saturday against Subiaco.
“They are a challenging team and last time we versed them we only just won so it will be interesting to see how this weekend goes,” Reilly said.
“But coming off of last week I think we’re all pretty confident in the confident that we have to play the footy that we want to play, and the confidence that our team got out of that will definitely help.
“We did have a couple of State players coming in so that might change how our team looks if we have them or not this week because Kiara especially added a lot of speed in our forward-line and her front and centre work was just incredible.
“Either way, I think we’re pretty confident that we can win and I’m comfortable in saying that we hopefully can win by more than we did last time so it’s bit less stress in the last few minutes.”
The Round 13 Rogers Cup contest between Swan Districts and Subiaco will get the action at Steel Blue Oval underway on Saturday beginning at 10:05am.
Swans are coming into the match up fresh off beating South Fremantle by 24 points last Saturday while Subiaco went down to East Fremantle at Leederville by 37 points.
Those results leave Swan Districts in second position on the Rogers Cup ladder with a 9-2 record while Subiaco aren’t far behind in fourth place at 7-4.
It was less than a month ago when the two teams last locked horns back in Round 9 at Sullivan Logistics Stadium and that saw the Lions beat the Swans by 19 points.
Frankie Best, Madi Fisher and Lara Sherborne kicked the goals for Swan Districts in that Friday night game, but they will be out for a measure of revenge now on Saturday morning at Steel Blue Oval.
