Round 13 Men’s Match Report v West Perth

Swan Districts had a day to savour at HIF Health Insurance Oval on Saturday with three impressive performances as all three grades came away with impressive victories against West Perth.

Swans were up against it coming into the Round 13 WAFL Men’s clash with West Perth at Joondalup on Saturday with the injury curse of 2025 continuing topped off with illness running through the group during the week.

They were coming up against a West Perth team fresh off a first up win after a change in coach too, but Swans produced a tremendous performance to open up a 27-point half-time lead before Aidan Clarke snapped the sealer late for the 12.13 (85) to 11.8 (74) victory.

There was plenty to like in the performance from Swan Districts including Leigh Kohlmann kicking another four goals all coming in the first half while Ben Hewett and Tom Smith also added two goals apiece.

Jye Chalcraft continued his fine season on the ball for Swans with another 32 possessions with Jesse Turner racking up 30 disposals, Aidan Clarke 29, Jehb O’Donohue 26, Ayden Cartwright 21, Lewis Tester 21, Josh Cipro 18, Bryce Watson 18 and Brandon Erceg 18.

West Perth did get the better of the start with the game’s first two goals before Swan Districts got on the board thanks to Ben Hewett at the six-minute mark.

Tom Smith added another to put Swans in front and then a couple of goals to Leigh Kohlmann just before quarter-time saw the visitors take a 10-point lead into the first break.

Kohlmann added another to start the second quarter to push that lead out to 15 points before Smith added a second shortly after, and then Kohlmann kicked a fourth of the half to see Swans go into the half-time on top by 27 points.

It was just the one goal from Swans in the third quarter to Seb Bright with the Falcons adding four up the other end to bring it back to a nine-point margin by three quarter-time.

Hewett then gave Swans the perfect start to the last quarter with his second goal before Otis Harvey and Aidan Clarke kicked important goals to see off the challenge from West Perth for the 11-point win.

It was the reserves clash that got proceedings underway at Joondalup on Saturday afternoon with Swan Districts going on to score the 12.11 (83) to 10.7 (67) victory against West Perth.

West Perth got off to a flying start with the only four goals of the match up in the first quarter but then Swan Districts responded with four goals to two in the second term to cut the lead of the Falcons to 14 points at half-time.

Swans then put in a dominant third quarter with five goals to two to turn that 14-point deficit into an eight-point lead of their own by three quarter-time.

The black-and-whites then kicked another three goals to two in the final quarter to secure the 16-point win which improves them to an 8-3 record on the season to sit in third position on the ladder and to be only percentage off top spot by the end of Round 13.

Cruz Woodley kicked four goals for Swans in the win with Lewis Zolnier-Owens and Josh Clements adding two apiece.

Luke Kelly racked up 29 possessions, Chayse Martinson 29, Lucas Andrews 27, Brodyn Fitzgerald 24, Cody Ryan 22, Jacob Coniglio 18 and Chase Loftus 17.

The colts contest then took place on Saturday night after the league game at Joondalup and that saw Swan Districts come away with the 10.8 (68) to 7.8 (50) victory against West Perth to complete the clean sweep of the day.

It was a goalless first quarter for both teams before Swans got going in the second term with three goals to one and that saw them take a nine-point advantage heading into the half-time break.

Swan Districts kept that momentum going into the second half with four goals to two in the second quarter, and three more in the last on the way to the eventual 18-point victory.

Carlos Partington kicked four goals in the win for Swans with Cooper Shord adding two goals as did Kalum Smith.

Soren Feast racked up 26 possessions, Leo Steed 25, Jai Debono 23, Cooper Rullo 23, Tom Oliver 19, Harley Cummings 16, Leon Kickett 15 and McCartney Murdoch 13 to go with 30 hit outs in the ruck.
