Round 11 Women’s Match Report v West Perth

Swan Districts have moved clear in third position on the WAFL Women’s ladder and stayed in touch of the two with the 33-point win over West Perth on Saturday night.

Swans and the Falcons did battle in Round 11 of the WAFL Women’s season at Joondalup’s HIF Health Insurance Oval in a battle of the third and fourth ranked teams.

Swan Districts were looking to bounce back from losses the past two weeks to top two teams Subiaco and Claremont who are both yet to lose a game in 2025, and Swans made the fast start in a rematch of last year’s first semi-final.

Swan Districts kicked the only two goals of the first quarter and then finished off with four majors to one in the last term on the way to the 8.6 (54) to 3.3 (21) victory.

The win improves Swans to a 7-3 record on the season to sit in third position two games now ahead of West Perth who are fourth and still within striking distance of the top two teams.

Taylah Edwards kicked another three goals in the win for Swan Districts with Kayley King adding two.

King also collected 21 possessions to go with her two goals with Jaime Henry returning to collect 20 disposals and lay 15 tackles.

Indiana West finished with 17 touches, Luka Davis 14, Jemma Sly 12, Tyla Fitzgerald 11 and ruck Lauren Quaife 11 to go with 46 hit outs and seven tackles.

Third position on the WAFL Women’s ladder went on the line when the two teams ran out on to HIF Health Insurance Oval and it was Swan Districts who got off to the better start with goals from Sienna Ajduk and Taylah Edwards in the first quarter while holding West Perth scoreless.

West Perth did manage two goals in the second term but Swans responded with a second to Edwards and that was enough to see them remain leading by eight points by the half-time break.

The only goal of the third quarter was also kicked by Swan Districts thanks to Summer Yarran and then Swans dominated the last term with goals to Kayley King, another to Edwards before Tyla Fitzgerald kicked truly and King added a second to secure the 33-point victory.

It was the Rogers Cup contest that started the evening’s action at Joondalup with Swan Districts coming into the game having ended West Perth’s two-year undefeated streak earlier this season.

The Falcons still came into the match up in top spot and having won the last two Rogers Cup premierships and went on to beat Swans 7.3 (45) to 3.2 (20) on their home deck.

It was a goal apiece in the first quarter before West Perth added three in the second term and Swans two with the Falcons going into the half-time break leading by seven points.

Swan Districts then managed just the two behinds in the second half with West Perth kicking three goals for the 25-point win with Swans now sitting in third position on the Rogers Cup ladder with six wins, three losses and a draw.

All three of Swans goals in the game were kicked by Keira Fawcett.
