Round 10 Men’s Match Report v Perth

Swan Districts celebrated the 100th game of midfielder Josh Cipro but couldn’t quite make it a winning day with Perth claiming the 15-point victory at Steel Blue Oval.

Swans were coming off the Round 9 bye in the WAFL Men’s competition on the back of scoring a win at home against the West Coast Eagles before hosting Perth back at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Swans had stuck with the Demons to only trail by three points at quarter-time and by five at the half, but Perth was able to work on top with five goals to three in the second half for the eventual 11.10 (76) to 9.7 (61) victory.

Perth did manage to kick the first goal of the game inside the opening five minutes but Swans soon responded thanks to spearhead Leigh Kohlmann.

Swans then regained the lead to start the second quarter with Kohlmann booting a third goal of the game before the Demons did kick the next three to open up a 17-point lead.

However, Swan Districts answered just before half-time with a pair of late goals to Brad Lynch and Jiah Reidy to cut that Perth advantage to just five points by half-time.

Perth was able to kick the first three goals of the third quarter to push that lead out to 24 points before Swans did get a couple of goals back before three quarter-time through captain Jesse Turner and Reidy, but the Demons were still on top by 17 points by the last change.

Both teams then kicked a goal apiece in the final quarter with the Demons going on to score the 15-point victory.

First up on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval was the colts contest and that saw Swan Districts hold out the fast finishing Perth for the 13.6 (84) to 12.4 (76) victory.

Swan Districts kicked away further in the third term with four goals to one to lead by 27 points, and then despite the Demons kicking five goals in the last quarter the black-and-whites prevailed by eight points in the finish.

The win improves Swans to a 4-4 record in the colts season to sit in sixth position but to be only percentage behind the fourth placed Claremont.
