Round 11 WAFLW Match Report
Ash Sharp and Taylah Edwards kicked two goals each and Swan Districts maintained top spot in the WAFL Women’s competition with Saturday’s 16-point victory at home to East Perth.
Swan Districts were back home at Steel Blue Oval in Round 11 of the WAFL Women’s season on Saturday needing to keep winning to maintain their hold on top spot as they played host to East Perth.
Neither team managed a goal in the first quarter but Swans then kicked three to one in the second before two to one in the third and then went on to secure the 7.4 (46) to 4.6 (30) victory.
The win improves Swan Districts to a 9-1 record on the season to maintain their hold on top position by the end of Round 11 with a one game and percentage advantage still over Claremont.
Of the seven goals that Swans kicked in the win, four of them were courtesy of Ash Sharp and Taylah Edwards who kicked two apiece on the afternoon.
Jaime Henry continued her brilliant season in the midfield for the black-and-whites with another 21 possessions and 11 tackles.
Luka Davis also collected 19 disposals, Jemma Sly 18, Jess Cox 17, Chloe Reilly 14, Naomi Baker 13, Isa Edgley 13, Summer Yarran 12, Rheanae Beagley 10 and Tamzyn Beros 10 to go with 31 hit outs and six tackles.
The Round 11 WAFL Women’s match up got underway at Steel Blue Oval with East Perth managing the only three scores of the first quarter but they were all behinds.
Swan Districts then managed to kick the first goal of the game early in the second quarter courtesy of Summer Yarran.
East Perth then kicked a first goal as well before Swans closed out the first half with goals to Ash Sharp and Adi Griffith to head into the half-time break with the eight-point edge.
East Perth kept things interesting with the first goal of the second half too before Swan Districts answered with goals to Taylah Edwards and Sharp to be on top by 14 points at three quarter-time.
It was then two goals each in the last term but the goals from Chloe Reilly and Edwards was enough to secure the eventual 16-point victory at home for the black-and-whites.
The big day at Steel Blue Oval got underway on Saturday with the Rogers Cup contest and Swan Districts were able to come away victorious beating East Perth 5.10 (40) to 4.0 (24).
It was a goal apiece in the first quarter with Swan Districts leading by just the one-point at quarter-time before Swans then took over in the second term.
The home team kicked three goals and held East Perth goalless to head into the half-time break with the 23-point advantage.
East Perth did kick the only goal of the third quarter and then two goals to one in the last, but Swans still went on to secure the 16-point victory to improve to an 8-2 record to sit in second position on the Rogers Cup ladder.
Zoe Tickner kicked two goals in the win for Swan Districts with one apiece to Lara Sherborne, Frankie Best and Charlotte Cousin.
