Round 10 WAFLW Match Report

Ash Sharp had a day to remember with eight goals and Jaime Henry had a record 49 possessions and Swan Districts put in a standout performance all afternoon on the way to the 90-point WAFL Women’s victory on the road to Peel Thunder.

Swan Districts arrived at Mandurah’s Lane Group Stadium needing to keep winning to retain top spot and they produced a dominant showing right from the start on the way to the massive 19.3 (117) to 4.3 (27) victory.

The result improves the Swans to an 8-1 record on the season to remain a game clear in top position in the WAFL Women’s competition by the end of Round 10.

It was quite a day to remember for Ash Sharp who has returned to play with Swan Districts in 2026. She ended up kicking eight goals from eight kicks for the day.

Summer Yarran also kicked four goals in the big win with Taylah Edwards kicking three as well and Madi Fisher two.

Then there was Jaime Henry who had a stunning afternoon to continue her outstanding season in the midfield for Swan Districts finishing with 49 possessions, 13 tackles, seven marks and seven entries inside the forward 50.

Jess Cox added 20 disposals for the black-and-whites, Jemma Sly 18, Emma Nanut 17, Luka Davis 17, Isa Edgley 14, Yarran 14, Naomi Baker 13, Karri Parnham 13 and Kaitlan Allen 13 to go with 10 tackles and 10 hit outs.

It took less than three minutes for Swan Districts to kick the first goal of the game thanks to Summer Yarran before Ash Sharp soon added her first and then Adi Griffith gave the visitors three goals inside the opening six minutes.

Yarran then kicked two more for the Swans before quarter-time and they were leading by 30 points having held Peel scoreless.

Sharp then kicked her second to open the second term before Taylah Edwards added another and then Peel weas able to finally get on the board at the six-minute mark.

Swan Districts responded from there with a goal to Madi Fisher before half-time on the way to holding a 35-point lead by the long break.

It was Sharp who started the second half with her third goal of the game and she also added a fourth and fifth to see Swan Districts head into three quarter-time with the 44-point advantage.

She kicked three more goals in the final term to end up with a stunning eight for the day with Edwards adding her second and third, Yarran her fourth and Fisher her second while Eliza Gelmi celebrated her 150th game also by getting in on the fun.

The action in Mandurah then wrapped up on Saturday night with the Rogers Cup contest and that saw Swan Districts beat Peel Thunder 9.7 (61) to 4.3 (27).

It was one goal apiece in the first quarter before Swan Districts took charge in the second term with four goals to just one behind from the Thunder to be on top by 27 points going into half-time.

It was then two goals each once more in the third quarter and finally two goals to one in the last from the Swans to secure the 34-point victory to improve to a 7-2 record on the season in second position on the Rogers Cup ladder.

Lara Sherborne kicked five goals in the win for Swan Districts with singles each to Micaela Henry, Khalia Fawcett, Lily Williamson and Layla Hagerstrom.
