Coaches Blog Round 12 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 11:48 AM

Horrid day all round with all three grades losing in sub par performances!

The colts were in it at 3 quarter time but a physically bigger and stronger Falcons unit broke the game open in the last and stormed away to an 8 goal victory. Mitch Bain was outstanding all day and finished with 26 touches and Oscar Matthews was a dominant force around the ground with his ruckwork and general play. William Reidy bounced back to good form down back and Joel Curtis showed a heap of potential in his second game of colts footy.

Coaches Blog Round 11 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 11:46 AM

A good day for the club upon our return after the double bye, where 12 points were banked even though I didn’t think we played our best footy in any grade!

The colts closed out the game by 23 points in tough conditions. They may as well have played in torrential rain given the state of the oval! It was incredibly dewy and the deck didn’t dry out until 3rd quarter time which meant any sort of clean ball handling or high skill level was made impossible.

Coaches Blog Round 8 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 11:43 AM

The old saying’ “you only get out what you put in” was pretty apt on Saturday with just the one win coming from a committed reserves outfit.

The colts were really flat and trailed all day before an amazing 5 minutes of footy from Tommy Whittle almost pinched it! Incredibly, he nailed 4 goals after being swung forward from defence and with 2 minutes to go it looked like our kids had stolen the win. But the footy gods got it right and the young lions went down the other end and scored to quite rightly secure a deserved win. Their effort was far superior and they were the better team.

Coaches Blog Round 7 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 11:39 AM

The kids started the day in awesome fashion. The Tigers jumped them by 4 goals early but it wasn’t due to a lack of effort. 11 goals to 3 after quarter time showed just how well they have played in this match given the amount of youngsters that came into the line up to replace our elite PSA talent.

We were missing Wilson, Cameron, Beck and Hinder but they were ably replaced by under 16’s kids in Garcia and Bright and Brock and they did a great job. Patrick Italiano came into the side as well and showed clean skills and a real ability in front of goals and he finished with 3 snaggers! O’sullivan and Humphries had really good days through the middle and down back Taylor, Bain and Martin controlled things nicely!

Coaches Blog Round 5 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 11:36 AM

It was a difficult day at East Fremantle Oval on Saturday where we only came away with the 1 win from 3 outings.

The colt’s boys got a nice touch up by a switched on Sharks outfit who were ready for the contest. We on the other hand were not, and a 6 goal to 1 first quarter effectively killed the game. Whilst disappointing, it should provide a valuable lesson for our youngsters. We weren’t switched on for whatever reason and our energy levels were way down on the first 3 rounds. East Fremantle kicked away and even though we squared things up over the next 3 quarters, they still won comfortably!

Coaches Blog Round 3 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 11:31 AM

Ripper day out at Leederville with 4 wins from the 4 games on offer for our supporters. The 16’s started us off with a solid win against an East Perth side that had a lot of talent running around from their country zones. WCE superstar Dean Kemp’s boy Sonny was playing some great footy for the opposition and it was a fast game played in perfect conditions.

Our boys were outstanding with every player showing real talent. Young Bright, Watson and Garcia looked unstoppable at times through the midfield, and the quality of overhead marking was a real highlight from Hilton, Edwards, the Robinson twins, Granger and Pasini. The style of footy they play is really impressive, with their run and carry game very exciting to watch.

Coaches Blog Round 2 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 11:28 AM

2 and half wins on the weekend after the 16’s match ended in a draw. Jake Pasini played extremely well at full back and Pilbara boy Nelson White was a standout playing predominantly as a forward. The Brockbernd twins played really well. We aren’t really sure at times who is who, but collectively they were great! Steve Thomson was very happy with the group’s performance and they are looking forward to playing East Perth this week.

COACHES BLOG FROM ROUND 1 - SWANS v PERTH

3 wins from the 4 games on Saturday was a solid start for the club in season 2017.

The 16’s had a nice win, and we are really happy with this group coming through. Names like Garcia, Bright, the Robinson twins, Hilton, Ireland and many more will no doubt catch your eye over the coming years. Our talent manager Steve Thompson keeps telling me this group will provide the club with a heap of senior players in the future, and after watching a lot of their first two games of the carnival, I couldn’t agree more.

Coaches Blog 17th February

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - 10:55 AM

With a month to go until round 1, preparations are starting to ramp up nicely leading into the season.

The boys went through a really tough phase of training over the last month with our biggest week topping out at 37kms of work over our 4 sessions. Luckily, we have had some strange summer weather that has helped out and we’ve only had a couple of days where it’s been seriously hot. The only negative of our prep has been the loss of Clancy due to a training mishap.

Presidents Response To West

Tuesday, June 13, 2017 - 3:28 PM

Presidents response to today's West Australian, 8 Feb 2017;

For the second time Mr Duffield has printed an article criticizing football in WA in relation to moving the AFL games to the new Burswood Stadium. It is clear he has no understanding at all about football in WA which covers Auskick to AFL. His views clearly come from looking through his rose coloured AFL glasses only from one of the many Media corporate suites he enjoys around the country and unfortunately like many 'self proclaimed' media experts writes a good story rarely based on any facts whatsoever.
