Round 6 Men’s Preview v Subiaco

Swan Districts is hunting a first win of the WAFL Men’s season and will be hoping the bright new lights of Sullivan Logistics Stadium do the trick when they take on Subiaco on Saturday night.

Swans head to the Leederville venue trying to win a first game of the 2025 season as they take on a Lions team also on a three-match losing slide.

The league game will get underway on Saturday night starting at 7:10pm with the day’s action beginning with the colts at 1:55pm and the reserves at 4:25pm.

Swans come into the Round 6 match up looking to get on the board for the first time in 2025 coming off a tough loss at home last Saturday to East Fremantle by 45 points.

Subiaco, meanwhile, has won just one of five games so far this season which came against the West Coast Eagles back in Round 2 with the Lions losing to West Perth, East Fremantle and Perth since.

That means both teams come into the Saturday night contest needing a win and with Swan Districts looking to make it four in-a-row against Subiaco.

Swans won both meetings between the two teams last year on the back of a thrilling two-point win back on Round 14, 2023.

Swan Districts wingman Jarvis Pina is hoping that they can just tidy up some areas that have been letting them down over the first five weeks of the season.

“It has been a tough start and I think as a player out there we’ve just felt a little bit disconnected out there at times this year,” Pina told 91.3 SportFM.

“We’ve obviously lost some key players, but we’re not making any excuses for that as well. Just at times it feels like we’re a bit of a step off right now and I’m not sure exactly what that’s down to.

“At times we click and play some good footy, and then it’s just about sustaining that for a longer period of time, which is the way teams have been able to beat us.”

Pina hopes that the Saturday night match up is the game when Swan Districts begin to rediscover what saw them reach the preliminary final in 2024.

“We’ve got Subi this weekend and it’s a pretty good opportunity for us, and we’re definitely looking at it as one where we can get on the board in,” Pina added.

“We’ve had a good week at training which we’ll look to bring into the game and hopefully string some good footy together because at the moment the comparison from last year to this year is quite different in how we’re playing. We just want to get back to being that team with the identity that we had last year.”

Swan Districts is still hunting that elusive first win of the season but the task of beating Subiaco on Saturday night won’t be helped with Leigh Kohlmann, Evan Smith, Brad Lynch and Jake Pasini all going out of the team.

Coming into the squad for Swans for Saturday’s match up against the Lions is Seb Bright, Ayden Cartwright, Max Chipper, Luke Cotellessa, Cian Ehlers, Otis Harvey, Alex Howard and Troy Yukich. Harvey is currently listed as an interchange, but will be his League debut if he midfielder is selected on Saturday.

Subiaco is hunting a second win of the season and from the team that lost to Perth last Saturday night, the Lions have called up Cade Abala, Corey Bellouard and Ky Franceschini while Ben Golding, Lachlan Henderson and Jack Cooley go out.

The colts match up at Sullivan Logistics Stadium gets underway on Saturday afternoon at 1:55pm with Swan Districts looking to improve on a 2-3 record up against the 1-3 Subiaco.

Swans are looking to bounce back from a narrow two-point loss last Saturday to East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval while the Lions are fresh off their first win of the season having beat Perth by 58 points last week.

The reserves contest begins at 4:25pm with Swan Districts putting its undefeated start to the season on the line against Subiaco.

Swans have won all five of their matches so far this season in the reserves including by 45 points last week against East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval as they come up against a Lions team who lost to Perth by 65 points and sits on a 2-2 record for the season to date.
