Round 2 Women’s Preview v South Fremantle

After a blistering start to the 2026 WAFL Women’s season, Swan Districts will be looking to build on that momentum by hosting South Fremantle on Good Friday at Steel Blue Oval.

Swan Districts have come into the new WAFL Women’s season on a mission after being so close to breaking through for premiership glory last year.

With that mindset, they made the perfect start on the road to Claremont last week and now will look to keep that momentum going at home on Good Friday against South Fremantle.

The WAFL Women’s match up will get underway at 12:25pm on Good Friday while before that, the Rogers Cup clash between the Swans and Bulldogs will be played on Thursday night beginning at 7pm.

Following last year’s one-point grand final loss to Claremont, Swan Districts took on the Tigers again to start the 2026 season last Saturday at Revo Fitness Stadium and produced a tremendous performance for the 41-point victory.

There was a lot to like in the win too including Ashley Sharp returning to kick three goals while Jaime Henry racked up 32 possessions, Alana Barba 20, Jess Cox 17, Isa Edgley 16 and Jemma Sly.

Now Swans attempt to back that up against the Bulldogs, but upon reflection and coach Jason Burton couldn’t have been happier with what his group was able to produce first up against the premiers of the past two seasons in the WAFL Women’s competition.

“We were pretty happy with it and you obviously get a long time to prepare for the first game and knowing we were coming up against Claremont who are the team of the competition for the last few years, our girls set themselves,” Burton told 91.3 SportFM.

“It was really pleasing with how they did it during the game and everything seemed to click for us, and we won’t get too carried away because it is Round 1 and Claremont are certainly going to bounce back from it, but it certainly helps us get off to a good start.

Both Swan Districts and South Fremantle had first up wins last week so Burton is fully aware that the Bulldogs will pose plenty of challenges for his team on Good Friday as they attempt to make a 2-0 start to 2026.

“It’s another exciting game and on Good Friday and tying in with the men’s fixture as well so hopefully there’s a decent crowd and I think the weather’s looking really good too,” Burton said.

“We’re excited for the game and South obviously had a big win and have brought in a few players from other clubs so they are certainly looking to be a little bit different to what they did last year.

“And we’ve got to prepare for them and they have good experience coming in along with some younger players who have some X-factor to them, and we’ll head in with our plan and try to do our team thing as well as we can and hopefully at home we can get the job done.”

The Rogers Cup game will be played on Thursday night with Swan Districts looking to keep the momentum going from last week’s 20-point victory against Claremont.

The Swans host a Bulldogs team who suffered a first up loss to East Fremantle by 13 points last Saturday as well.

Katica Borsic, Sienna Gerardi, Adi Griffith, Isla McAulay, Gemma Smith, Lily Williamson and Madeleine Wright come into the side for Swan Districts.

From the outfit that beat Claremont last week, Layla Hagerstrom, Shanae Morisey, Khalia Fawcett, Karri Parnham, Grace Vale, Keira Fawcett and Charlotte Cousin go out for the Swans.
