Round 15 Women’s Preview v West Perth

Swan Districts head to Joondalup on Saturday as part of NAIDOC Round in the WAFLW competition to take on West Perth and needing to keep winning to maintain their hold on top position.

Swans will play the Falcons on Saturday at 4:35pm at HIF Health Insurance Oval coming into the contest still sitting on top of the WAFLW competition but with Claremont hot on their heels.

Coming off beating East Fremantle by 27 points last Saturday at Steel Blue Oval, Swan Districts retained first place with the 11-2 record ahead of taking on a West Perth team sitting in sixth place and still a finals chance with a 6-6 record coming into Round 15.

The two teams met earlier this season back on April 18 at Steel Blue Oval and on that occasion it was a 7.8 (50) to 6.8 (44) victory for Swan Districts over West Perth in a tight affair.

In that win for Swans, Ash Sharp, Summer Yarran and Taylah Edwards all kicked two goals each with Jaime Henry racking up another 37 possessions, Luka Davis 19, Summer Ajduk 18, Chloe Reilly 17, Jemma Sly 16 and Tamzyn Beros 16 to go with 20 hit outs.

Keira Fawcett has come into the Swan Districts team as a 15-year-old over the last month and been a revelation, and she is looking forward to the challenge against West Perth on Saturday.

“Saturday’s game against West Perth is another important chance for us to show consistency and keep building momentum,” Fawcett said.

“We know they’re a tough side and will come out firing, but we’re focused on playing our brand of footy, sticking to our structures, and finishing strong.

“With Claremont close behind us on the ladder, every win matters, and we’re determined to keep setting the standard at the top. The team needs to be switched on from the start and play the game.”

Swan Districts kept their winning ways going last week against East Fremantle and there is just one change from that team with Makaela Grau coming into the side and Demi Liddle going out.

West Perth lost to Claremont last Sunday and from that side, Kat Bennett, Jasmine Giles, Miley Hynes and Ellee McEvoy come in for the clash with Swan Districts.

Going out for the Falcons are Ebony Jackson, Amy Fortescue, Leuca Krmpotic and Sienna Pollard.

It will be the Rogers Cup match up first on deck at HIF Health Insurance Oval on Saturday afternoon between Swan Districts and West Perth getting underway at 2:30pm.

Coming into the match up and Swan Districts remain in top spot of the Rogers Cup with an 11-2 record while West Perth are in sixth position at 5-7 but still a chance to play finals if they can get on a winning run.

Swans continued their winning ways last Saturday with the 29-point win at Steel Blue Oval against East Fremantle while West Perth lost a thriller on the road to Claremont on Sunday by just two points.

The two teams have already met earlier this season back in Round 4 on a Friday night which saw Swan Districts score the 7.11 (53) to 2.5 (17) victory against West Perth.

Coming off that win last week against East Fremantle, Swan Districts have made just one change to their Rogers Cup team with Macey Johnson coming in and Shanae Morisey going out.

West Perth have made the two changes with Nevaeh Arthur and Mia Haast into the side and Geneva Vearing and Ava Millar going out.
