Round 12 Men’s Match Report v East Perth

Swan Districts farewelled one of its favourite ever sons and the club’s games record holder on Saturday and it was only fitting that Tony Notte went forward to kick a late goal but East Perth did come away with the 40-point victory.

Swans were back at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday fresh off a stirring win last Saturday on the road to an East Fremantle team who were sitting in second position at the time.

Not only were Swan Districts attempting to build on that back on their home ground, but it was also the 323rd and final appearance in the black-and-white jumper for Notte who had announced his WAFL retirement during the week.

While the game didn’t quote go as Swan Districts were hoping with East Perth prevailing 13.8 (86) to 7.4 (46), it was a celebration to honour the career of Notte. He even went forward to kick the team’s last goal of the game as he walked off for the last time.

Swan Districts captain Jesse Turner finished with 35 possessions and 15 marks for the day with Jye Chalcraft also picking up 31 disposals, Josh Cipro 29, Aidan Clarke 23, Otis Harvey 22 and Max Chipper 17.

It was always going to be an emotional day at Steel Blue Oval with the last game in the record setting career of Tony Notte, but East Perth had plenty at stake too and started well with the game’s first couple of goals.

Swans did get one back before quarter-time to Max Chipper to cut the Royals lead to just five points.

Swan Districts managed just the one goal then in the second quarter as well which was kicked by 102-game midfielder Josh Cipro but East Perth managed to open up a 14-point lead at half-time.

Jehb O’Donohue and Jesse Turner kicked goals in the third term for the black-and-whites but up the other end the Royals added three more to be leading by 21 points at three quarter-time.

Swans did manage goals to Otis Harvey, Jackson McLachlan and finally Tony Notte in the last quarter, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Royals scoring the 40-point victory.

The colts contest got proceedings underway at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday morning with Swan Districts producing a dominant performance for the 13.18 (96) to 4.4 (28) victory against East Perth.

The Royals got off to the better of the start with the only three goals of the first quarter before Swans responded with three to nil of their own in the second term and that saw the home team leading by seven points at half-time.

Swan Districts then dominated even further in the third term with six goals to one, and then the only four goals of the final quarter saw Swans score the emphatic 68-point win.

The win improves Swans to a 5-5 record on the season in the colts to be sitting in fourth position to be percentage ahead of both Subiaco and Perth.

Levi Calcott, Kalum Smith, Cooper Shord and Jai Debono all kicked two goals apiece for Swans in the big win.

Calcott also collected 22 possessions, Anthony Hansen 22, Leon Kickett 21, Debono 20, Tom Oliver 19, Soren Feast 16, Cooper Rullo 16, Liam Hrabar 14 and McCartney Murdoch 13 to go with 24 hit outs.

Then in the reserves clash, Swan Districts started on fire but couldn’t quite keep it going with East Perth ending up prevailing 11.7 (73) to 9.6 (60).

Swans kicked four goals to one in the first quarter to already be leading by 19 points at quarter-time before the home team added another two goals in the second term and went into half-time on top still by 19 points.

East Perth then kicked the only four goals of the third quarter before the Royals kicked another four goals to three from Swans in the last term with the eventual 13-point victory.

Swan Districts do remain in third position on the reserves ladder despite the loss with a 7-3 record to still only be percentage out of second place behind Claremont.

Chayse Martinson kicked two goals to go with 19 possessions for Swans while Ayden Cartwright returned from suspension and collected 28 possessions as did Jacob Coniglio in his return season to Swan Districts.

Nathan Blakely finished with 25 possessions and 12 hit outs with Chase Loftus gathering 23 disposals, Luke Cotellessa 21, Henrick Alforque 20, Jamison Ugle 18, Brodyn Fitzgerald 17 and Cody Ryan 17.
