Round 10 Men’s Preview v Perth

Swan Districts are back in action after the bye this Saturday at Steel Blue Oval with Josh Cipro in line to return, which will be his 100th WAFL game. The black-and-whites are looking to knock off the Perth from fifth on the ladder.

Swans and the Demons have played some thrilling contests in recent years and this Saturday presents the chance for the home team to put a dent in the finals aspirations of Perth when they clash at Steel Blue Oval.

The league game will get underway at 2:30pm with the day’s action beginning at 9am with the colts meeting with the reserves to follow at 11:30am.

Swan Districts had the bye last weekend and prior to that recorded a second win of the 2025 season with the 27-point victory also at Steel Blue Oval against the West Coast Eagles.

Now Swans will play host to the Demons for their first meeting of the season with Perth arriving at the Bassendean venue also fresh off beating the Eagles last Saturday by 38 points at Mineral Resources Park.

Swan Districts come into the Round 10 match up with a 2-6 record on the season while Perth are sitting in fifth position with a 6-3 record.

Saturday’s game will be the first time the teams have met since Round 21 last year when Swan Districts scored the 55-point victory also at Steel Blue Oval when they were on the way to reaching the preliminary final a few weeks later while Perth once again missed finals.

Swan Districts have now won eight of the past nine matches against Perth with the lone win for the Demons in that time a three-point triumph in Round 3 last year at Mineral Resources Park.

There have been several thrillers in that stretch as well with Swans winning by a goal in Round 9, 2023, thanks to a Jarrod Cameron goal after the siren, and then by five points back in Round 3, 2022.

The midfield of Swan Districts will get a boost for Saturday’s game as well with the return from a hamstring injury of Josh Cipro who will celebrate his 100th WAFL game in the process.

“Perth are going pretty well too at the moment and obviously we’re not going as well as we’d like to be, but sometimes you get these sort of games where they might take us a little bit lightly to give us the opportunity to catch us off guard,” Cipro said.

“We should be fresh coming off the bye but it’s almost like a derby for us when we play against Perth and no matter where each team is on the ladder, it normally always is a pretty competitive game so I’m looking forward to it.”

Along with Cipro coming into the Swan Districts line-up to take on Perth, Brandon Erceg, Brodyn Fitzgerald, Evan Smith, Tom Smith and Lewis Tester have been added to the squad.

Going out for Swans are defensive pair Luke Taylor and Alex Howard.

Perth have made plenty of changes too following last week’s win against the Eagles with Tarkyn Brogan-Henry, Regan Clarke, Zac Fleiner, Cooper Moore, James Preston-Coates, Blake Schlensog and Jake Watson into the squad.

Going out for the Demons are Sam Simpson, Josh Edwards and Tyrone Thorne.

The day’s action begins at Steel Blue Oval with the colts match up which sees Swan Districts currently sitting in seventh position with a 3-4 record as they take on a Perth team just above them in sixth place at 4-3.

That leads into the reserves contest with Swan Districts now sitting in second position with six wins and a loss but having a game in hand against the league-leading Claremont. Perth’s reserves currently sit fourth with a 5-2 record.
