Milestone weekend for the All Abilities team
After the inaugural season in 2022, the All Abilities team from Swan Districts are celebrating some big milestones for three players. Reaching a milestone game is a huge effort for any of our players and one that is recognized by the club.
Swans All Abilities team is an opportunity for those living with a disability to participate in a team sport and play footy together. They play in the Perth Football League’s Integrated competition.
Ben Klaassen, Jackson Foskett, and Will Brenssell are set to reach their 50th game this weekend playing with the All Abilties team.
Disability and Inclusion Coordinator Jorjia Perdija said “It’s pretty special for Will, Jackson and Ben to reach 50 games for Swans and a first of many milestones for the All Abilities team!”
“They have been a part of the team since the very beginning and their continued dedication to the team has always been at the highest standard. All 3 have made an immense contribution to the club in their own unique way.”
The All Abilities team is not only about playing footy, but the family that comes with it as well. Jackson said the best thing about the team and what keeps him coming back to Swans is “going out on the footy field each week, getting to know people and make new friends, and playing with my mates.”
When asked “what is the best thing about playing with your team mates,” Klaassen’s mum, on behalf of Ben, said “Being a part of the club. Swans has been a family not only for Ben, but for us as well. He is able to connect with others as well as meet new people through a connection with the club and football.”
“Ben has always been a smiling face within his teammates, no matter the result he continues to radiate positivity among everyone,” said Pedija.
Foskett said he feels pretty good about reaching the 50th game milestone. “I have always wanted to play for Swans with my mates and follow in my Uncles footsteps.”
Pedija said “Jackson not only continued to inspire his teammates with his hard work and dedication on field, his off-field role as a mentor through our Disability and Inclusion programs continues to inspire countless individuals.”
This is not the only great achievement for Brenssell, but this year he has also had the honour of being captain for the team. He states “I sometimes don’t want to stop playing. Playing with my mates from day one always keeps me coming back.”
“Will has always shown great leadership qualities, and this has come with great reward with him earning the captaincy role this year with players continuing follow him for guidance,” said Pedija.
