A Special Saturday for Harper
It was a special walk out for Harper over the weekend, as Half-Back Kayla May guided her onto the field to take part in the season opening coin-toss for Swan Districts.
On the 13th of August 2024, at just eight years old, Harper was diagnosed with Metastatic Osteosarcoma, an aggressive cancer that had already spread to her lungs. Harper has had many rounds of chemo and endured an internal amputation to remove and replace her femur and replaced her knee.
“I met Harper through her mum, Jen, as she was my previous boss and become a work mum for me! Being around the family meant I knew Harper and got to know the kind soul she is.” Kayla May.
“Harper has shown her true strength and inspired me every day with her unshakable positivity, sass, kindness, and above all, bravery.
“Having her walk out on the field with our team meant the world to me, and hopefully her! She has no idea the strength and positivity she provides to all those around her!
“We had a great day on Saturday, Harper has been telling everyone about it” Harper’s mum, Jenny.
The good vibes didn’t end with the walk out, on Saturday Harper also told us she is now cancer free and will be ringing the bell on Monday.
We look forward to seeing Harper and her family at our next WAFL Women’s match.
