Vale Edward (Tim) Barker
Swan Districts Football Club recently lost our oldest Life Member Tim Barker.
An illustrious member of the club’s 200 game club, Edward Frank Barker, known as Tim throughout his career, played 239 games for Swans between 1944 and 1959 which was the club record before being broken by Bill Walker.
After playing, he then served on the Club Committee for a further 11 years helping to secure our hat trick of Premierships in the 1960’s.
He was a fine full back and great club man also playing five games for WA. He won the club’s prestigious Swan Medal in 1952 and was club captain in 1957 and 1958.
Barker was awarded Swans Life Membership in 1957 and inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
“This is a significant loss of a champion player, Hall of Famer, Captain, Swan Medallist and great bloke”, said club President Peter Hodyl.
“Tim was 98 years old and was still following the Club and attended the Life Members lunch and the 90th Year celebration game earlier this year.
“He was our oldest and longest standing Life Member”.
RIP Tim Barker.
