Round 15 WAFL Preview v Claremont
Swan Districts ended their drought at Tigerland earlier this season now will look to make it seven straight wins for the first time since 2014 this Saturday against Claremont on a massive day at Steel Blue Oval.
When Swans beat Claremont back in Round 6 of this season it was the first win at the venue for the black-and-whites since 2013 and now Swan Districts plays host to that same Claremont team on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval.
It is a massive day on a number of fronts for Swan Districts including Tony Notte equalling the club's games record of 305 currently held by Bill Walker while co-captain Jesse Turner will also earn life membership by playing his 150th game.
Then to top it off is the game itself which pits the league's hottest two teams against one another with Swan Districts on a six-game winning run up against Claremont who has won its previous five matches.
Those six consecutive wins have Swans now sitting on an 8-4 record to be in third position on the WAFL ladder with the potential of moving into the top two depending on how percentage pans out.
However, it's a significant challenge up against the Tigers who have improved to a 7-5 record with five consecutive wins to now sit in fifth position.
That has both teams as the two form teams in the WAFL and on of them will continue their hot streak Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval.
That last time Swan Districts won six-in-a-row was when it turned into an eight-game winning streak back in 2014 with that year ending up in a finals appearance.
Swans are now attempting to win seven straight matches for the first time in 10 years and from the team that beat West Perth by 63 points at Pentanet Stadium last Saturday, they have added Ayden Cartwright, Max Chipper, Matthew Germs, Tom Smith and Luke Taylor.
The only out at this stage for Swan Districts is Jiah Reidy.
Claremont is fresh off beating South Fremantle by 11 points last Saturday and from that team, Riley Disisto, Menno Inverarity, Jasper Peace, Max Rohr and Tyron Smallwood are into the team.
The only out so far for the Tigers is Eric Benning.
Claremont has won 12 of the last 14 against Swan Districts, but it's a huge day for the black-and-whites with Turner reaching his 150-game milestone while Notte joins Bill Walker on 305 matches to join him as the games record holder.
While Notte knows what a big occasion it is for Swan Districts, he knows the win is what matters and he's fully aware how tough Claremont always are given he's only won 13 times in 41 attempts against the Tigers in his career.
"I know when we played them last time at their home ground we hadn't beaten them there for 11 years so we know that it's been tough against Claremont over the years," Notte said.
"They are obviously flying at the same time now too so we are expecting nothing less from them this weekend and we have great respect for the team they have been, and the form they are in.
"Hopefully we get some nice weather and it should be a good spectacle for the crowd."
Turner will become a life member by reaching his 150-game milestone with Swan Districts on Saturday, but he's won just three of 18 games against Claremont to date so is under no illusions about the challenge.
"It's a massive game. There's really six teams who have separated themselves and it's all very close, and last time we played each other we were both struggling," Turner said.
"That win for us was our first at Claremont in 11 or 12 years so that kind of kickstarted our season. They ended up losing to West Coast not long after that, but since then their season turned around and they've won five on the trot including beating the top two teams Peel and East Perth.
"They are playing a very contested brand of footy too and they are No. 1 in the comp in tackling, they are right up there in contested possessions and we're well aware of how good of a team they are, and they have been for a long time.
"It's a huge game for the ladder and that top three is really what you want to aim for to get the double chance and we want to try and separate ourselves from the bottom half of the five. We know we will have to play some of our best footy to win but these are the matches you want to play in."
