Swans appoint Burton Senior WAFLW Coach
Swan Districts has appointed Jason Burton as Senior WAFL Women's Coach.
In line with the club's football strategic plan, Burton's objectives will be to build a high performing women's football program and a strong team culture.
Burton has worked in the club's social impact program since 2022 and is now the Head of Social Impact responsible for driving the club's social impact programs through the metropolitan and regional communities.
He has played and worked for South Fremantle and worked in the Fremantle and West Coast football programs. He's coached in the women's Perth Football League competition and was the Swan Districts WAFLW Assistant Coach in 2024. He's also an AFLW talen scout for Essendon.
Swans President Peter Hodyl is excited about what Burton can bring to the table.
"Jason inherently understands the club's purpose, vision, and values and he gets the important role our football teams play in this."
"Jason knows our WAFLW players well and sees the opportunities to build a program helping our players be the very best they can be."
Burton will hit the ground running and is looking forward to the challenge.
"Swans have been one of the most successful women's teams for a long time and for me to get this oppportunity to lead them is a real privilege."
"The average age of our WAFLW league players in 2024 was only 20, yet we still played in finals and played some terrific football across the season, so it's an exciting base to build on."
"The challenge for us is to be more consistent and that will come as our players mature and play more games together. Experience counts for a lot at this level."
"I know there's a strong appetitie from the players to really go to another level and continue to lift their own standards, so as coach it's important to create an environment where players have clear expectations and get the development they crave, but they're also empowered to take ownership of what we do and enjoy the challenges as a group."
Burton will start preparing for the 2025 season immediately.
