Semi Finals WAFLW Match Report

It wasn’t quite to be for either Swan Districts teams in the WAFLW or Rogers Cup first semi finals at Pentanet Stadium on Sunday, but that doesn’t mean the 2024 season didn’t provide plenty to be proud of.

Both Swan Districts teams in the WAFLW and Rogers Cup competitions finished in fourth position at the end of the home and away season meaning they were up against it on Sunday taking part in first semi finals at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium.

First up was the Rogers Cup on Sunday morning and that saw Subiaco beat Swan Districts 8.4 (52) to 3.2 (20) before the WAFLW match up saw West Perth defeat Swan Districts 11.4 (70) to 4.2 (26).

While Swan Districts' WAFLW season came to an end on Sunday, there were again a host of impressive performances including Sienna Pollard kicking another two goals from 12 kicks.

Kayley King also ended up collecting 15 possessions, Lily Paterson 15, Hope Ugle-Hayward 10, Luka Davis 10, Isabella Edgley 10, Jorgina Kean 10 and Jemma Sly 10.

Getting off to a good start was going to be important to Swan Districts' hopes of causing the upset away from home, but West Perth was playing its first ever final and started strongly with two goals in the first four minutes to Erin O'Brien.

Swans, though, responded well with a goal to Sienna Pollard before former Swan Districts forward Imahra Cameron responded for West Perth. Swans did get one back before quarter-time thanks to Taylah Edwards and that kept the margin at six points at quarter-time.

West Perth were then able to kick the only three goals of the second quarter and that meant the Falcons went into the half-time break leading the first semi-final by 26 points.

The Falcons then kicked the first goal of the third quarter but Swan Districts responded with goals to Pollard and Emily McGuire which gave the black-and-whites a sniff to be back within 19 points at three quarter-time.

West Perth responded, however, and kicked the only four goals going back to the scoring end at Joondalup to end up securing the 44-point win and to end the season of Swan Districts in the process.

The Swan Districts Rogers Cup team was also in action in a first semi-final on Sunday morning against Subiaco at Pentanet Stadium.

Subiaco did end up winning 8.4 (52) to 3.2 (20) to end the season of Swan Districts but it was still a great season of growth and excitement in 2024 under the coaching of Tayah Reed.

The Lions ended up kicking the only five goals of the first half in the first semi-final and then it was three goals apiece in the second half for the eventual 32-point victory with Subiaco.

Swan Districts goals in the first semi-final were kicked by Grace Hirst, Alyssa Tremlett and Larrisa MacGregor.
