Swans Celebrate Steel Blue's 20 Year Anniversary
The name Steel Blue has been synonymous with Swan Districts Football Club for the past 20 years.
While the club has been through highs and lows over the last couple of decades, from winning the 2010 Premiership to the financial challenges in the early 2010’s, Steel Blue’s commitment to the club remained rock solid.
Steel Blue’s story began in Western Australia in 1995 and they’ve since grown to become Australia’s leading manufacturer of work and safety boots.
The legendary partnership and mateship between Steel Blue and Swan Districts Football Club started with three of the company’s directors having played for the club, including Peter Carter (10 games), Ross Fitzgerald (112 games and 1 Premiership), and club Legend Don Holmes (158) who won four Premierships with Swans.
“Swan Districts is part of Steel Blue’s DNA”, said Steel Blue Director Ross Fitzgerald.
“I can remember the first time we signed on to do this when Steel Blue was in its early days and I am really proud that we’ve been able to keep our commitment to the club going for 20 years”.
“As a former player for the club, there is a lot of pride that comes from this partnership that goes beyond the Steel Blue logo you see sitting side-by-side at the club and on the jerseys.”
The partnership started in 2004 and included renaming the historic Bassendean Oval to Steel Blue Oval, a name that’s become inseparable from Swan Districts and the WA community.
“We are immensely proud of our partnership with Steel Blue,” said Swans Vice President Andy Holmes.
“Steel Blue’s commitment to community aligns perfectly with our club’s purpose, vision and values.”
“They’ve helped us build strong connections with our regional and metropolitan communities through many outreach programs, delivering real and measurable social impact.” ?
Steel Blue is a community focused business and Swan Districts forms part of its grassroots community partners.
“The club and Steel Blue have evolved over the years, with a joint focus on giving back to the communities we serve,” said Steel Blue Chief Executive Peter Bell.
“Together, we have delivered a lot to the community, have become part of each other’s fabric and looking forward to achieving more through this partnership for many years to come.
“Steel Blue has a long history of embracing and leading matters on corporate social responsibility. We do it because we care – and caring is part of our culture.”
