Round 13 WAFLW Match Report
It was a day to remember at Leederville for Swan Districts on Sunday with the WAFLW and Rogers Cup teams winning by a combined 186 points against East Perth.
Swan Districts arrived at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Sunday in Round 13 of the WAFLW season looking for a win to retain their hold on a top four position and they got exactly that with Courtney Zappara and Emily McGuire combining for 11 goals.
Swans ended up kicking the only 12 goals of the second half on the way to the 17.12 (114) to 2.1 (13) victory against East Perth to improve to a 6-5 record on the season to remain in fourth position.
It was quite the dominant display from Swan Districts to end up with 85 more possessions for the game than East Perth along with 29 scoring shots to three, 46 entries inside the forward 50 to 12 and then the eventual 101-point victory.
It was a day to remember up forward as well for Courtney Zappara who starred by kicking seven goals from her 13 kicks.
She wasn’t alone in enjoying things in front of goal either with Emily McGuire also kicking four goals from her nine kicks with Isabella Edgley adding three goals to her 10 kicks and five marks.
Lily Paterson produced another standout performance in the midfield as well for Swan Districts racking up 33 possessions with Luka Davis collecting 24 disposals, Carys D'Addario 23, Naomi Baker 20 and Kayley King 15.
In her 99th senior game with Swan Districts, Emily McGuire started the game with the first goal inside the opening two minutes before Courtney Zappara added two more in quick succession.
When McGuire also kicked a second, Swans had four goals on the board already inside the first 12 minutes. Even though East Perth did get on the board just before quarter-time, Swan Districts were still on top by 19 points at quarter-time.
The first goal of the second quarter also went the way of the black-and-whites courtesy of Kayley King and it would be a goal apiece for the term with the home team still in control leading by 21 points at the main break.
It was then a domination from Swan Districts in the second half as they were able to hold East Perth completely scoreless.
Up the other end, Swans kicked six goals in the third quarter which included four of those in a stunning performance from Zappara with Taylah Edwards and Hope Ugle-Hayward adding one apiece.
That saw Swan Districts leading by 61 points at three quarter-time and it was another six goals in the last term including a seventh for the day to Zappara.
Isabella Edgley also kicked one while McGuire added her third and fourth of the day, Edgley added another and she kicked a third just before the siren with Swan Districts ending up commanding 101-point winners.
Also in Round 13 of the Rogers Cup for the 2024 season, it was a similarly thumping 15.7 (97) to 2.0 (12) victory for Swan Districts against East Perth at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Olivia Rasenberg, Leah Howard and Madison Fisher all kicked three goals apiece in the big win for Swan Districts with Summer Ajduk adding two.
The win improves the Swans to a 7-5 record this season to remain in fourth position on the Rogers Cup ladder to be just a game behind the third placed Subiaco and a game clear of the fifth ranked South Fremantle.
