Round 8 WAFL Preview v West Perth

Friday, May 24, 2024 - 3:43 PM

Swan Districts is back home to Steel Blue Oval to host West Perth on Saturday afternoon as the WAFL season resumes following the State game break.

The WAFL competition took a general break for the State game last weekend which saw the SANFL beat Western Australia by 63 points at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Swan Districts were represented in that game by Jye Chalcraft, Nik Rokahr and Jesse Turner. Chalcraft finished with 16 possessions, Rokahr 16 and Turner 23 as they now return to pulling on the black-and-whites jumper.

It's a crucial game in the context of the WAFL season for Swans as well who currently sit in sixth position with a 2-4 record to be a game behind both West Perth and East Fremantle who occupy fourth and fifth spot.

However, a win on Saturday for Swans and they will likely end Round 8 back inside the top five if they are to secure a third victory of the 2024 season.

Games between Swan Districts and West Perth always tend to be fascinating as well with Swans having won two of the last three meetings between the two teams, including in Round 11 last year by 15 points at Pentanet Stadium.

Swans also ended a six-game losing streak to the Falcons back in Round 19 of 2022 with a 12-point victory at Steel Blue Oval so the black-and-whites will be looking to continue to build on the strong recent form against the Falcons this week.

The action on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval will get underway from 9.15am with the colts match up between Swan Districts and West Perth.

Swans currently sit in seventh position in the colts with a 2-3 record while the Falcons are in fourth place with two wins and two losses along with a draw.

Before last week's bye, Swans suffered a 42-point defeat at the hands of Peel Thunder while West Perth now hasn’t played since a Round 6 win against that same Peel team.

The reserves match will then follow at Steel Blue Oval from 11.45am with Swan Districts still hunting a first victory of the season on the back of winning last year's premiership.

Swans lost to Peel two weeks ago by 15 points to remain the only winless team in the reserves competition at 0-5 while West Perth is 1-4 having beaten Peel three weeks ago before a bye and then the State game break.
