Swans Indigenous Mural QR Code
In 2022 we were excited to reveal an 11 metre long mural at Steel Blue Oval, designed and painted by local artist and proud Whadjuk-Yuet-Ballardong man, Kevin Bynder, with input from our Swans Aboriginal Advisory Committee (SAAC).
The design is an ancient satellite map showing the places of significance along the Derbarl Yerrigan near Steel Blue Oval Bassendean. It serves as an important cultural reference point and educational tool. As part of our NAIDOC celebrations in 2023 we have launched an interactive experience, where you can discover more about the mural by scanning the QR code on your phone. A number of important meanings and detail behind key locations on the satellite map of the Derbarl Yerrigan and the Mandoon – Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar story can be discovered.
This project was supported by the Town of Bassendean and is another important piece for Swans effort to embrace the history of Noongar people and influence on the club.
