Round 14 WAFLW Match Report vs Claremont
Swan Districts' stunning seven-game winning streak in the WAFLW might have ended on Sunday in a loss to Claremont, but the Swans remain in the competition's top four with two rounds remaining.
Swan Districts arrived at Revo Fitness Stadium on Sunday putting its seven-game winning streak in the WAFLW on the line, but it was always going to be a significant test against the league-leading Claremont.
And in the end, the Tigers kept their undefeated streak this season going by winning 5.7 (37) to 2.4 (16) on their home ground.
However, despite the loss Swan Districts remains in fourth position on the WAFLW ladder with a 7-5 record with two games of the season remaining against East Fremantle at the WACA Ground and South Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval.
The two hottest teams in the WAFLW locked horns at Revo Fitness Stadium on Sunday and it took 11 minutes for the first goal to be kicked which went the way of the Tigers thanks to Adele Arnup.
Arnup then added a second goal for the Tigers before quarter-time which helped her team to the 12-point lead after the opening term.
Swan Districts got on the board to open the second quarter with a goal to Ruby Mahony but Claremont responded almost immediately courtesy of Bec Anderson.
However, Swans did kick a second goal of the quarter thanks to Kayley King and that cut the margin to just eight points going into the half-time break.
The game was still right up for grabs coming into the second half but it took less than two minutes for the Tigers to push their lead out further when Arnup kicked her third goal of the contest.
That would prove the only goal of the third term with Claremont's lead growing to 17 points by three quarter-time.
There would then be only one goal in the last quarter as well and that went the way of the Tigers courtesy of Rachel Ortlepp with Claremont securing the 21-point win to lock in top position and to snap the seven-game winning run of Swan Districts.
Swan Districts' goals were kicked by Kayley King and Ruby Mahony. King also finished with 15 possessions and two tackles, and Mahony 13 disposals and 10 tackles.
Jasmine Ware had a terrific afternoon for Swan Districts finishing with 20 possessions, six marks and two tackles.
Eliza Gelmi also gathered 16 touches and six tackles for Swans while Naomi Baker had 15 disposals, Daisy Rigby 12, Isabella Edgley 12 and Indiana West 11 to go with eight tackles.
Megan Carron also had 10 touches and 14 hit outs in the ruck.
Round 14 in the Youth Girls Rogers Cup competition saw Claremont beating Swan Districts 8.3 (51) to 4.4 (28) at Revo Fitness Stadium.
Tannah Lee kicked all four goals in the game for the Swans.
