Swans Father Son Jumper Presentation

Tuesday, March 14, 2023 - 4:52 PM

On Friday evening at our Futures (16s) Season Launch, we were able to celebrate a chapter of our proud history. Over our 90 years as a football club, we have had many fathers and their sons both represent Swan Districts. In our Futures program, we’re proud to continue that tradition by recognising 6 of our past champions, whose sons have been selected in this year’s Futures program. On Friday, each father passed on their playing jersey to their son.

Harley Cummings (Scott Cummings)

Scott played 128 AFL games for Essendon, Port Adelaide, West Coast & Collingwood between 1994 to 2002.  His 1999 season with West Coast saw him kick 102 goals across the regular season and finals campaign, resulting in Scott being awarded the Coleman Medal for most goals kicked in the AFL for that season. Before these accolades however, Scott’s footballing journey began here at Swan District’s where he played a total of 34 league games and kicked 104 goals in a senior career that spanned across three seasons in 1992, 1993 and 2002.

Scott was a member of the 1991 Colts Premiership winning team. During Scott’s time in Colts he kicked 78 goals, the most ever kicked by a Swan Districts Colts player which included 6 goals in the grand final against Subiaco.

Scott’s son Harley is set to commence upon his own footballing journey within our Futures program this year. Harley has played his junior football with the Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club, Harley received Scott’s Colts jersey, number 19, that he’ll wear in each game his selected in throughout this year’s Futures program.

Chris Jordan #10 (Troy Jordan)

Troy’s footballing journey with Swan Districts occurred across the early 1990’s. Troy played two seasons within our senior’s program resulting in 4 league games. During his time as a Colts player, Troy featured in the 1991 Colts Premiership. Chris has played his junior football with the High Wycombe Junior Football Club and will now embark upon his own journey in his father’s footsteps as a Swan Districts Futures player this year.

Blake Kelly #3 (Peter Kelly)

Peter was a consistent feature within the Swan Districts league side between 1992-96 and then again from 1999-2003. Peter played 128 league games with 71 total goals and featured in the 1991 Colts Premiership victory. This will be the Kelly’s third son progressing through the Swans Futures program with second oldest, Luke, one of our leaders within this year’s Colts program. Peter’s youngest son, Blake, from the Caversham Suns Junior Football Club will wear his dad’s number 3 league jersey in this year’s Futures program.

Dylan Matson #13 (Adam Matson)

Adam was also a member of the 1991 Colts premiership winning side. Across his Swan Districts career Adam played in 16 league matches totalling 9 goals. It’s fantastic to recognise his son Dylan, a product of the Upper Swan Junior Football Club that will be wearing number 13.

Jake Piani #8 (Mark Piani)

Mark had a long tenured career with Swans seeing him play 137 league games, kicking 87 goals across a 10-year journey in the late 90’s and 2000’s. Mark polled 63 Sandover votes with Swan Districts and is also an assistant coach with our league team for the 2023 season. In 1998 Mark was awarded the prestigious Swan Medal, the Swan Districts Football Clubs Fairest & Best League player. His son Jake, from the Belmont Junior Football Club will wear his dad’s number 8 jersey.

Jayden Scarfone #16 (Michael Scarfone)

Michael was a key part of Swan Districts throughout the 1995 season playing a total of 10 league games. Michael has had a long tenured legacy within the Swans footballing community having played several years for local amateur side Swan Athletic. Jayden has played his junior football with the Upper Swan Junior Football Club and will be wearing number 16 which is Michael’s league jersey.

A message to each father and son, fathers, we hope you enjoy the experience and sense of satisfaction you’ll gain through watching your sons play in the jersey you’ve passed onto them. Sons, it’s now time for you to forge a legacy of your own as a player of the Swan Districts Football Club. We know you’ll wear the jersey that has been passed down to you with pride, passion, and commitment just as your fathers had done before you.
