Swan Districts looking to make it three straight wins in season 2022

Friday, May 20, 2022 - 2:59 PM

It’s been a long while since the Swan Districts have headed into a match ahead of their Subiaco opponents on the WAFL ladder, with the teams currently sitting seventh and ninth respectively.

Having beaten the Lions by a point in 2015, Subiaco went on a 12-game winning streak against the Swans, before the black and whites stopped the run in Round 12 of last year, again by just a single point.

The Swan Districts will be hoping their game this week in Kalgoorlie goes better than the least time they met the Lions in the Goldfields, back in 2003. The black and whites had plenty of chances to take the win, but inaccuracy in front of goals cost them dearly, kicking 22 points from 25 scoring opportunities.

After close wins in the previous two rounds, including a stunning upset victory over Claremont last weekend, Adam Pickering has made just two changes to his side, as he looks to capitalise on their first two loses of the season.

If you can’t make it to the game in Kalgoorlie, you can still cheer on the black and whites with Channel 7 covering the game from 12:10pm.

Last time they met

  • Swans won by a single point,
  • Jesse Palmer kicked 1 goal 6 behinds,
  • Jesse Turner led all possession getters with 21 disposals,
  • Corey Gault filled the stat sheet in every area except the goals column, and
  • 16 out of 22 Swans players had 12 possessions or more.

Fun Facts

  • Swan Districts average 13.13 or 91 points against Subiaco,
  • Swans and Lions have met once before in Kalgoorlie, in 2003. The Lions won by 23 points, with the Swans extremely inaccurate, kicking 3 goals and 22 points on the day,
  • Swans have never had a draw in a Round 5 game in their history,
  • Round 5 is the second most common round for the Swans to meet the Lions, and
  • There has only ever been one draw between the 2 clubs – in 1966.
