State 16’s Academy Squad For 2022 Confirmed
The West Australian Football Commission is delighted to reveal the State 16’s?Academy squad for 2022.
Thirty-five players have been named ahead of this year’s U16’s AFL National Championships and the WAFC congratulates the clubs and schools who’ve helped players earn selection.
WAFC State Talent Manager Adam Jones believes the players chosen will do their state proud.
“It was very challenging to finalise the last couple of spots in the squad, with some late Futures Matches playing a significant role in selection.
Former Claremont Colts Premiership coach Ross McQueen will oversee the team, with his Assistants including Antoni Grover, Andrew Browne, Scott Moore, Simon Bergin, and Mark Seaby.
“Ross brings a wealth of experience and success in junior coaching to the role.
A winner of multiple flags at the Tigers means he is perfect for the position,” Jones said.
For many of the teenagers, it’s an important step in their football journey.
“It’s the first opportunity for these boys to represent their state and test themselves against the best in Australia.
It will also be an opportunity for AFL scouts to assess the potential of players,” Jones said.
WA will play a Trial game against the West Perth Colts next month, before they travel for their opening match of the Championships against South Australia on Sunday June 26 in Adelaide.
