WAFLW women looking to go one step better in 2022
‘So close but so far’ has haunted the Swan Districts women’s League side over the past four seasons, having been knocked out of the first week of Finals and losing two Grand Finals twice each since their last grand final win in 2017.
In their second year under experienced head coach, Adam Dancey, the Swans will be looking to go one step better in 2022.
A slow start saw them drop their first two games against Claremont and East Fremantle, before three big wins against West Perth, Subiaco and last season’s Premiers, Peel Thunder, moved them back up the ladder to be currently sit third.
With a Round 6 bye, and a game this Saturday against South Fremantle, who are on a four-game losing streak, the Swans women are primed to start stamping their presence on the competition, just shy of the halfway mark of the season.
A number of experienced players are also set to return to the black and whites, with West Coast’s AFLW season already over, while Fremantle fight for a spot in this season’s Grand Final.
After just five games, strong individual efforts have seen 15 players already named in the WAFLW Team of the Week squads, five of which have been named on two or more occasions.
Eight young Swans have also been named in the 2022 WA AFLW State 18s side, two of which are in the leadership group, being the most of any other WAFLW club.
The WAFLW Reserves side currently sit second on the ladder, while the Rogers Cup girls are just one game outside the top four.
With an exciting 10 rounds to go, don’t miss a minute of the action by becoming a 2022 Member of the Swan Districts Football Club today!
